About me:

I have many roots in radio and music as well as a strong passion for theatre and community.

My radio background includes: NCRA/ANREC National Coordinator, CHUO Ottawa volunteer, CHRY Toronto Music Director, CHSR Fredericton Development Director (Fundraising, Events, Sales, Promotions, Recruitment), and WQDY Calais (Maine) Announcer/Music Director (before it was classic hits). I am currently the Executive Director (formerly Development Consultant) for the Community Radio Fund of Canada.

Music has been a part of my life since I started singing 'Delta Dawn' in my grandparents' living room at the age of three. Since then I have been a singer/songwriter, playing mostly guitar. While my own recordings are hard to come by, I have helped other independent artists over the years by organizing a few regional battle of the band competitions (in the Maritimes), developing and running a national project called Dig Your Roots, and even working one-on-one with artists for tours, grants, bookings, and promotions.

I discovered my love of theatre early on as well. I acted in several high school productions and a few university productions, but my passion lies behind the scenes. I started stage managing in university and, in many ways, I have never looked back. I approach many aspects of my life much as a stage manager approaches a show -- organized, detailed-oriented, ready to call the show, and always leaving the master script at stage left for the next person to use.

I currently live in Ottawa, collect rocks, and live for the journey instead of the destination.

You may wonder why I have kept an Eaton's dog collar for 14 years. I wonder too.
  • Apr 4 2007 2:37 PM

Can I borrow your banana clip? Maybe it'll help me entice more than 12 friends. I'll lend you my dog collar in return. I got it from the pet department at Eaton's in 1993 - you should have seen the look on the sales guy's face when he noticed me trying them on...

To our friends, both new and old:

Please forgive this small mass-message-type comment, but we just want to tell everyone about our latest project: "DIG YOUR ROOTS - CREATIVE JAZZ". Independent artists, CDs, live concerts aired on radio stations . . . it's all quite exciting for us. Come on over to our page to check out all the details.

We'll be back here soon to see what's up with you these days. Feel free to drop us a comment in the meantime.

    All the best,
    Dig Your Roots

Hi Melissa! Sorry it took me a month to reply to your post - it's been a while since I've logged in :) Happy (belated) New Year to you. Glad you enjoyed the tunes. Heh - I had sorta forgotten about nEa too! I've been writing more lately, so once this whole "parenthood" madness subsides a little, I hope to post something new. Things are great in F-town. Audrey is almost 7 months old now and doing just great. You can see lotsa pics of her here : www.circularstars.net/audrey ...Keep us posted on any upcoming visits and we'll do the same! Jamie.
