For over a decade, Melissa Li has carved a name for herself as a passionate songwriter and performer. From getting her start in the subways and the community enclaves of Boston to playing to thousands at San Francisco Pride, Melissa's music career has been a non-stop, surprising journey.
Her first full-length musical "Surviving the Nian", which received the prestigious Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation award, opened to rave reviews at the Boston Center for the Arts Calderwood Pavilion in April 2007.
She released her solo debut "2 Seconds Away" in 2008, the year she joined Kit Yan in forming the Good Asian Drivers, which has since become a nationally-renowned music/poetry trio. The Good Asian Drivers has been lauded by the press, including Curve Magazine, for their groundbreaking performance, and scored a nomination for an OUTMusic Award in 2009 for their activism.
In late 2009, Melissa joined the classical rock experiment Just Puppets as their keyboardist, and is currently working with many other talented artists in the New York City area, including hip hop duo Upper Echelon (UE), Chris Takita, and Ashley Baier.
Melissa Li is also a freelance filmmaker and videographer.
Melissa self-directed this music video for "Here's to You". This song is featured on the Good Asian Drivers album "Drive Away Home".Good Asian Drivers promo video. All About Good Asian Drivers in 2 Minutes from Good Asian Drivers on Vimeo.
