Bio
THE DIORAMA EP IS NOW AVAILABLE! .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. Melissa Myers sings the way new moms bathe new babies - with wonder, the slightest trepidation, and gratitude - each syllable offered like she can taste its specificity, each breath another occasion to communicate, to interpret. Whether cover tune or confession, each song, each note is sung like an extension, an expression, an explanation of the self. She is in possession of a rich and indulgent instrument -half snake, half snake-charmer- Melissa Myers is completely shot-through with a shoot-right-through-you kind of voice. .. Most of what she performs, and all of what she offers on her newest release, The Diorama EP, is self-penned. Theres a freshness in her songwriting, a pink-cheeked Well, I never! that could seem overly naïve if it werent for some well-seasoned moments of believable regret and backdoor hope. She might be an optimist, but she isnt the deep-dark-forest-hating kind. .. An active and voting member of Gretel (www.gretelmusic.com), Melissa Myers plays whatever is placed in front of her, and she plays it well: piano, guitar, the comb, the saw, the bucket, a newspaper stand, an accordion. But for all her instrumental acrobatics, she still seems to write and play toward the creation of space and time from which she can sing. Her voice will tie you to the tracks of a song and yourself. It will spin you around, set you straight, and twist you crooked. It will make you start crying. It will help you to stop. -
