(*)Arianna Sykes & The Found Objects of Desire CD-r AVRCRC 0012 $2-Oh hey. Check it out. This came in the mail the other day and totally took me by surprise. Arianna purrs over effortlessly loose acoustic jams; accompanied by a sparse backing band consisting mainly of one Melissa Lonely and other superstars of the New Weird South. Think Hunky Dory era Bowie as filtered through Neil Young's "Tonight's the Night" album and you're close. The room is just as much an instrument as the guitar. Limited to 25!
Hubcap City/Melissa Lonely Split cassette AVRCRC 0011 5$- The Ashton Velvet Rock Club Recording Company is very excited to present this fine, fine piece of recording!
Atlanta's Hubcap City retreat to the basement once again to create this rusted out, post-apocalyptic, predominately instrumental, folk soundtrack. Amidst the usual sparse arsenal of guitars, bass drum, trumpet and singing saw, you'll hear organ groan, pinball machine clatter and found metal klang. The creamy vocal center of the cassette really ties the whole room together.
Melissa Lonely delivers 13 tracks of hazy, slow motion sounds using only ukulele and voice. Awash in echo and hiss, these songs have stayed up all night only to reveal themselves at that point when eyelids are half open and nothing seems to make sense anymore. Perfect for long drives.
Pro dubbed/printed tapes housed in boxes made from recycled, hand screened album covers. No two are alike!
Hey Melissa! I've got the CDs ready for the next time I see you, and yes, they're the 2nd edition cover you saw in my photos, printed on a few different colours of paper. I've been working my way through the CDs you gave me, I'm enjoying Don't Come Home quite a bit. I need to give the songs a better listen sometime when I'm not on a noisy train, though.. I'm not good at blocking out noise. See you again soon, yeah? :) Take care!
Can you believe that I've never actually seen all of "Child's Play" or any of the sequels?
I have a Blockbuster gift card from last year that I need to use. If you're not going to finish my haircut then you at least need to enjoy some Chucky antics with me at some point this month.
