My momma, the poetry of Rumi, the sea, all the Goddesses I know, my grandmother, Sylvia Plath, Sappho, wild old women, Ani Difranco, Tori Amos, Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi, Jeff Buckley, India Arie, Celia White, Dido, Butterfly Boucher, Emm Gryner, Mazzy Star, Jann Arden, Sarah McLachlan, Alison Pipitone, Noa Bursie, Kelly Hunt, Dar Williams, Alanis Morissette, Paula Cole, Sarah Harmer, Peter Gabriel, Etta James, the beauty and the pain of this life...
I believe in poetry, I believe in light,
I believe in crying till your
body bleeds the night,
no, you don't mind, because time flies
when our shoulders can fall,
when we breathe in between the pain and are
unashamed to crawl.
Ever since I can remember, music has slept in my bones, begging to be released. I sing because my body aches to explore, to scream, to fight, to know. It aches to let life drip from my tongue. I believe in asking questions, in reaching into the pain to extricate the beauty in the meaning. I believe that music is meant to heal, is meant to remind us of how interconnected we are. Music takes us on terrifying and exhilarating journeys, and brings us to the very core of the deep of living. I never learned notes--I feel notes. Catharsis is my musical propeller and I am awed by how incredibly resilient the human spirit is. I am here to listen and to inspire, to ask that we dance together when frightened. My vision is to find those in the world who still have antennae. I am honored to be a vessel that music chooses to pass through and I am amazed at how something so small can simultaneously be so immense. I am here, broken pieces in hand, to ask for hope, and to remind myself and others that the earth is always listening. I hope you enjoy.
"...deeply moving, lilting poetry...with a guitar, a microphone, and a voice that could move mountains...warm, full sound...ranging from a deep bluesy rumble to a high, shattering wail...the soulstring-tugging poetry dares listeners to ignore her messages, ranging from hopeful to challenging and always backed by a personal story...Lussier uses her music to draw people together"
