Melissa McKinney began performing in the Charlotte area in 1996. She was the lead singer and manager of her classic rock and country cover band for almost five years playing various venues in North and South Carolina. She left her band after giving birth to her daughter in 2000. Melissa went on to teach preschool and elementary music for the next few years before breaking back into the local music scene in 2004. Her group, Identity Crisis, a blues and rock cover band, went on to play full time for two years while frequent changes in the lineup caused Melissa to reevaluate her situation. She joined forces with Lori Spencer of Sultry in the summer of 2007 and added jazz to her growing repertoire of Blues. In the fall of 2008, Melissa moved back to her hometown of Princeton, WV to open a music school. She performs solo locally and is in the process of forming another band.
Melissa's extensive songlist includes songs from Janis, Etta James, Sam Cooke, Bill Withers, Stevie Ray, Ruth Brown, Dinah Washington, Bonnie Raitt, Allman Brothers, Delbert McClinton, Diana Krall, Eva Cassidy, and Susan Tedeschi.
