It all started with 4 boys, 4 crushes, 4 elements and 8 songs…now Melissa Trinchere releases “Seasons” - 10 tracks of love songs, cautionary tales and (as always) deeply personal character stories filled with an ethereal, brooding sound she’s learned to hone even further…
With the release of 3 EP’s (“Les Petits Garcons” 2004/2007, “Changing Tide” 2008, “live at the cocky bull” 2009) and 1 LP, “A Lunar Legacy” 2008 – Melissa explores the seasons of her early adult life in her own dramatic and emotionally abstract way with her 2nd full length album. “Seasons” urges the listener to follow her through a year beginning in January with the opening track, “Slow and Broken” – then backtracks to December with, “Christmas On The Emerald Isle”. She says, “I wrote a lot of these songs when I was in Ireland recording "the little boys" demo. I was going through a lot back then and I was far away from home, spending time with someone I spoke with on the Internet for a little over a year and dealing with all the emotions that come with something like that.”
The importance of the album’s concept in the track listing of this record took precedence over any other concerns. “I didn’t put the songs in that specific order for any other reason but to take someone through the year, from winter to spring, summer then fall; to show the journey of my higher self, the part of me that follows the path to where my heart wants me to go.”
The album’s original musical intention was to be stripped down and acoustic with a bare feel, keeping with her history of mostly unaccompanied, piano-pop tunes like her contemporaries and influences, Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple, Tori Amos and Damien Rice - but after recording the first few songs with Henson Studios former sound engineer Bryan Gonzalez, they decided on a different direction for a few of the tracks. Songs like, “Cold Feet”, “Sligo Town” and the haunting tale of a woman who makes a sport out of getting men to leave their girlfriends or wives in “She Gets What She Wants”. Those songs saw more detailed instrumentation with percussion, layered guitars and a more alternative rock sound.
For the past couple of years playing live, Melissa has built an adoring fan base from playing at venues like Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles, sharing the bill with fellow Indie musician and folk singer/songwriter Marian Call and being a regular at C&D’s Welcome Café in Redondo Beach CA and Borders Café in Rancho Cucamonga CA. She’s also previously performed in County Sligo, Ireland, where she opened for well-known Irish musicians John Spillane and Rory Gallagher (front man of The Revs) at Barry’s Pub, in Grange in 2008 and the Osta Café Sessions showcase hosted by Wayne O’Connor in 2007.
Melissa plans to do a short U.S. Tour before the close of 2009 and during the first half of 2010 to promote “Seasons” to a wider audience and wishes to return to Ireland and hopefully branch out to a larger part of Europe next spring.
