Karl Hofstetter and John Spencer emerged from the desolate Indianapolis music scene in late 2000. Frustrated by common songwriting processes and seemingly ignorant song structures the duo threw out all compositions and just let their instruments (drums and electric four sting bass, respectively) speak to one another. On Glossolalia, the group’s first release on Sounds Are Active (co-released with the band’s own Joyful Noise imprint who released the self-titled LP) Melk The G6-49 defined their sound as heavy and grainy, combustible at any moment. Unable to fit creative circles into stylistic squares the group move in a direction informed by their influences, death and taxes.
In the middle of 2005 or 2006 ( I can't remember exactly) the band, or duo, went their separate ways. Karl currently enjoys fishing and running his label Joyful Noise Recordings, and playing drums for Lafcadio, Abner Trio, and other such acts. John is busy being daddy to his son Joseph and thinks he wants some more melk.
