Hailing simultaneously from Canada's east and west coasts, Mello Black grew up in London, Ontario where he began his emceeing career in the late 90's behind abandoned buildings and in London's scant city parks. His first moniker was Black Moses, a name he used with his former group Bread and Water, which included Johnny The Revolator and Shad K. Their first release was through the label Tru-Thoughts on the Producer TM Juke’s critically acclaimed “Maps From The Wilderness” LP. Following this, another single was done with TM Juke to accompany the album, “Melodic Stroll” that broke into the TOP 10 for the 2004 international DJ charts. It was during this period that Mello Black acquired his present name. Though both TM Juke produced tracks garnered international acclaim, the group decided to split, where upon Black and Shad K created the Funk/Hip hop collective, Fountain St. Blues Project. With Fountain St. Mello Black and Shad K had the opportunity to open up for the likes of The Pocket Dwellers, God Made Me Funky, and Masta Ace. After years of big band based music, Mello Black moved to Vancouver, BC in the fall of 2006, where he will be releasing his debut solo album, "At The Speed Of Motion" in 2007. Well known as having up-beat and freestyle inspired shows, Black on hearing the talents of the rest of his current crew had to add to his live performance. Now, he is always accompanied by The Collective, a Funk/Jazz Band comprised of the talented M Jazz Bassists Joel Kerr, Piano maestro Julian Pattison and Drum machine Brennan.
