Based on the love of a good tune, the dynamics of rock’n roll and the sound of the 60s and 70s, Mellophone were formed in Aarhus, Denmark in 2001 by drummer Søren Madsen, singer Thomas Eskild, guitarist Mikkel Rørbæk and bass-player Michael Nielsen. The same constellation as today.
From the very beginning Mellophone was all about music and the creation of music, more than creating or inventing a concept or style. The project was to forth bring a certain nerve, a certain mellophonic nerve.
The first couple of years were spent in the rehearsal-studio with an intense focus on song writing and getting musically acquainted. Discovering that we furthermore were enjoying ourselves in the process, we decided to push it forward with the release of an impressive 10 track promotion album.
The album were overwhelmingly well received by critics, music-sites and quickly found a devoted audience. It also lead to a series of concerts, festivals and venues, including the famous Danish SPOT-festival. The band also participated in a couple of competitions for talented up-coming bands and ended up winning the Danish part of the world largest music-competition, the Emergenza-Festival.
Just as everyone thought that Mellophone were on an unstoppable road to success, along came a period with several replacements of band members, giving the band a bit of a set back. But with a great amount of belief in the project and still focusing on writing new material, the band released a new promotion album, once again followed up by critical acclaim and more gigs around the DK.
In the autumn of 2007 the band returned to Flemming Bloch’s Mindless Studio in Aarhus, DK, this time to record their debut-album containing 13 tracks.
The album, at the moment being mastered in Medley Mastering, Copenhagen, DK, is expected to be released sometime in 2008.
