----ABOUT SOME LESSONS----
MELODY GARDOT SOME LESSONS EP THE BEDROOM SESSIONS
"EDITOR'S PICK ON CDBABY.COM"- Sleepy, sultry, brings to mind the jazz/pop hybrid of Norah Jones.....enriched with sophisticated jazz harmonies, Melody Gardot delivers some beautifully smokey songs....One very nice album here.
"BOLD & STRIKING MUSIC" -It's a trick of alchemy that awful pain and uncertainty can give rise to such bold and striking music. - City Paper Philadelphia
"TRULY IMPECCABLE"-Melody has overcome a great obstacle in her life; a terrible accident in which a car hit her on her bicycle leaving numerous serious injuries which she is still coping with to this day. Her CD [SOME LESSONS] was recorded bedside while still recovering. If this isn't the most passionate display of an artist in love with their craft I don't know what is.- IAC Radio
B eing a person who cares a great deal about the world me, I don't like to hear when people suffer. In India, there is a movement called the Guchusum Movement. It's made up of a small group of people who are former political prisoners from Tibet who live in exile. These prisoners were kept in jails and prisons, tortured for standing up fo their religious beliefs and Tibetan customs. If they lived in America they would not have been imprisoned. But as fate would have it, they lived in Tibet and China had the ruling power to imprison these people.
Lucky to be let out alive, the people who did survive these years in prisons traveled to India. (Mimicking the path of the Dalai Lama). There, they have a place where they are safe and able to practice their religion freely with a life free from torture. I support this organization with proceeds from the CDs sold.
I get alot of friend requests, and approve pretty much everyone. I mean you want to be my friend? sure why not?? Truth is, Im pretty good about getting back to everyone to say hi and what not. Recently though I have had a major backlog of requests, so if you put in a request a while ago, PLEASE be patient. Dont remove it because I didnt get to it in a week. Its taking me anywhere from 5-10 days to approve and keep up, so please just wait. I promise Ill get to you! xoxo
--THOUGHTS ON DISABILITY--
I'm not usually very good at explaining myself so in this case, this is where things get tough. Disability is a funny word because the very nature of the word is (lacking-ability). While in one sense this is true, would this word not apply to all people as all people are in some way enabled when it comes to certain tasks? For instance, think of how many people you know who can paint well. Of those people who cannot paint at all, then are they not "disabled" as painters? The very word is self-demoting.
I see myself in this way: "I am able to do some things and unable to do others." Thats all. The technicalities are just as important as you make them. All you need to know is why I need the things you see me with, as most people do not need them:
CITIZEN CANE- Stability and Balance DARK GLASSES- Photosensitivity (can't tolerate light) EARPLUGS- severe Hyperacusis/Tinnitus NICE SHOES- What can I say, I like my shoes...

Hey Melody! I'm a huge fan! I'm a jazz/funk drummer from NJ - when is the next time you'll be in the area performing? I'd love to come and see you and maybe even jam. Please let me know :)
Thanks for the add. I saw your story on CNN. I always believed in the power of music. I will try to come see you when you come to New York or New Jersey. -- Kal
Welcome back to the States. We'd love to have you in Harrisburg! I've been crazy about your album ever since you were featured on iTunes. Hope to see you soon.
I know it's kind of weird to leave a detailed, and thought out comment on myspace, but here goes.
I like your views on disability. Maybe it's because you have some of these so-called "disabilities," but most people are either severely offended, or they make jokes about it. I liked that you are pretty middle-of-the-road about it and are able to be firm, but jokingly at the same time. You seriously made me smile, which, I know, is sort of weird, but I enjoy people with a depth, or in better words: a realistic personality.
Random, I know. And definately a weird place to show any intellect, but it came into my head, and I thought you might appreciate it.
i must say, your voice is a feather that hits like a fist. wow, the passion is extraordinary. i haven't heard such since the likes of Ella and the other old-time greats. i bought your album on iTunes and it amazes me. keep on, woman.
Hello Melody! I saw your write up on the CNN web page - Thursday I think it was - that's great! I don't really know why the comparisons to Norah Jones - but I think you are much better. :) I hope all has been going wonderful for you and that your tour has been going great for you too. You take care Melody! Best always, David

Hi Melody, I've had your CD for awhile now. Bought it at a local HMV here in Toronto. Just read your brief CNN interview and it really left an impression on me. All the best to you and your music!
