Although MELODY MEMORY is considered a meta-lyrical fusion of Reggae, Hip-Hop and Funky Soul, their music and message is much more than just the obvious. Their broad appeal musically bridges gaps between younger and older generations.
After performing almost non-stop for the last 2 years in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area at events such as The Dallas City Arts Festival, The 2009 Deep Ellum Arts Festival, and the Grand Opening of the DART Green Line railway station in Dallas' arts district in Deep Ellum, Melody Memory has transformed itself from a standard 7-piece club act to active members of the community. This harmonious blend translates into something much more than just a band and their music. MELODY MEMORY is a movement.
They beautifully transcend the music by being part of the local artists community, and by being actively involved in the development of local "at risk" youth, as well as up and coming poets and wordsmiths. MELODY MEMORY is actively involved with improving public education through creative learning.
Working with non-profit organizations such as Big Thought, Art.Love.Magic, and Creative Solutions, MELODY MEMORY has put itself in a position to further the artistic growth and development of kids all over D/FW using the MELODY MEMORY curriculum. This curriculum, developed by lead vocalist and teacher Alejandro Perez, is best described as a learning process by which a child is taught the recollection of thoughts with sounds, music, and creativity.
MELODY MEMORY performed at the 2008 Kids Expo @ Dallas Market Hall for educators, parents, and kids alike. Songs like “What’s a Letter?” and “Water” are the subjects that are taught, but with a melodic twist. By being musically creative with the lessons the result is a child learning and retaining that information through music.
MELODY MEMORY is also the house band the last 2 years for The DaVerse Lounge. A monthly non-competitive, spoken word poetry open mic event held at The Dallas Theater Center for teens throughout the Dallas Independent School District. The DaVerse Lounge is a visionary initiative designed to promote community and diversity, while exposing a new generation of theatergoers to non-traditional performance forms.
In 2009, MELODY MEMORY was also selected to be the headlining act at the Grand Opening of the new DART Green Line railway station in Downtown Dallas. This 28 mile, $1.8 billion project will connect communities far and wide, bringing public transportation to more people in more places. Songs like “Connectivity” and “C.R.E.A.M.”(Creativity Rules Everything Around Me) musically represent the development occurring in the community, and is precisely the reason MELODY MEMORY was asked to perform at this historical event.
The unique combination of entertaining adults on one hand and teaching children on the other is what makes this band like no other. MELODY MEMORY continues to perform around the D/FW areas and beyond. Although they deviate from the norm, they remain with the same mission; To spread the musical message of peace, love, and creativity.
