Melo Malo Paulino is a highly advanced wordsmith born in the mecca of Hip Hop, New York City. The son of Dominican immigrants, Melo Malo is a first generation American not only fluent in both English and Spanish; he is lyrically skilled in both languages. Determined not to simply bind himself to the obvious clichés that his bilingual comrades tend to subscribe to, he remains a Hip Hop purist. His rhymes are as intricate as they are contagious, and his selection of musical arrangements is reminiscent of Nas’ early 90’s debut, the classic album Illmatic, and revolutionary musical movements like the Wu Tang and Death Row which are dearly missed by Hip Hop fanatics that thirst for the warm embrace of raw beats with some soul in them and lyrics with meaning, something that many fans today believe is missing from mainstream Hip Hop and Pop. Recording most of his songs over monstrously rugged Nick Jackelson instrumentals, Melo has chosen not to water down his style. Flowing gracefully over gritty dungeon beats and even crispy reggaeton rhythms, this is an artist with more than just a bright future. Melo Malo Paulino aims to bring to the table a never experienced before cross cultural sound that has so far only been hinted towards by similar artists. Working for years behind the scenes, he has made a living as a Spanish comedy writer, voice over actor, ghost writer, and writing jingles for major Spanish radio stations across the country. Working these humble positions in exchange for no recognition in order to survive and support his education and his music, he has built an arsenal of rap flows that will challenge any major label rap artist in the scene today. At the same time, Melo Malo frequents New York’s best Hip Hop open mics, most notably the world famous “End of The Weak” open mic, the first international Spanish rap battle “La Batalla de los Gallos”, the “Spokinn Movement” freestyle brotherhood, and the Nuyorican Poets Café, as well as battling live on 105.9 FM “La Kalle”, freestyling at college radio stations such as Long Island University and LaGuardia Community College’s weekly program “Willy’s World”, performing at Brooklyn’s Southpaw and the Bowery Poetry club with his Staten Island crew Tha Freakshow and extended Hip Hop family the infamous Brooklyn Point Dot Period crew, as well as appearing in many other events across the city of New York. It is needless to say that Queens born Melo Malo Paulino’s album in progress, “Tha Moon Cycle”, is set to make a major impact on Hip Hop music. Working simultaneously on “Tha Moon Cycle” and a self titled Spanish rap album, both recorded on original music by Nick Jackelson, Melo still makes time to appear on local independently produced mixtapes that slowly circulate from Queens to Brooklyn. Anyone searching for the next big change in Hip Hop music should keep an eye on Melo Malo Paulino, whose unique new voice can effectively reach audiences stretching from the slums and suburbs of America, to all corners of the Latin world and beyond. Currently, Melo Malo Paulino has an EP available on itunes called “Melo Mulano”, and songs and freestyles available for download on the internet on sites like Myspace, Soundclick, and MiGente.
