MELONHEADZ Does Basingstoke live 2008's Interests
Heroes
Sex Pistols shook up the world and changed music forever
Roger Eagle created and nurtured a large portion of the Liverpool scene a did it really well
Malcom Mclaren and Vivenne Westwood gave UK punk a kick up the arse
The Stone Roses are probabily the most innovative band of my era and totally defined it
Rodney Mullen took skateboarding to a whole new level, invented most tricks too. Even at the age he is now still no one can touch him in terms of skill
Tony Wilson is my all time hero. He created and nurtured the manchester scene started a revolution in music. Also unknown to many his FAC achitectural concepts filtered into manchester life to the point where now if you go to manchester you see Wilson everywhereand thats just the beginning, he kept it totally real and stuck to his priciples, but by doing so made hardly any money out of his ventures, which in the end killed him as he couldent even pay for his cancer treatment.
John Peel and Tony Wilson gave the world new music when the cheesy media companies wouldent support it. They were the first to define the Indie genre and make it 'cool' they also spawned a revolution in music which gave birth to many new forms which included most dance music.
Bill Hicks is like a modern day Socrates in the way that he told people truths they dident necicarily want to hear, and those truths once realised on mass will maybe reshape the world we live in forever.
Pink Floyd to me the most sacred band ever Dark Side of the moon is a freak of nature.
Debbie Harry was one of my heroes growing up not only was she hot when she was younger, but she introduced Hip hop to me and my brother (when hip hop was not gangsta bullshit) and i really dig her outlook on art and music.
Happy Monday's for me are the last true rock and roll band every rebelious thing big name bands do now is merely an imitation of these guys, they also invented the drum loop you all here in most dance tracks around the world.
Just when you thought the corporate media companies had destroyed rock and roll forever, Pete Dogherty comes along with his side kick Carl Barrat (Basingstoke lad) and kicked life into a flagging british live music scene.
Andy Warhol changed peoples perception of art and threw the best parties
Banksy is for me one of the greatest artists of our time. His art is both thought provoking and highly infectious. get a book on Banksy and you wont put it down for hours, maybe if your lucky you might bump into banksy's work next time your walking the streets of London.
Jean-Michel Basquiat is for me the second greatest artist of our time. Banksy wont admit this but i bet secretly Basquait had a big influence on him especially his street art.
Arundhati Roy is the greatest author around at the moment. As an established peace activist her 'COME SEPTEMBER' speach sent shock waves around the western world and made us dumb people realise a few important things, unfortunatly her modern day Martin Luther King status was stamped on and censored by the corporate world and a bunch of corrupt ass kissing polititians.
Wayne Anthony Author of 'class of 88' and promoter for one of britains first ever acid house raves 'Genesis' must make the hall of fame. This guys vision shaped a whole generation of dance music maniacs and began a culture that still lives today all over the world. When other free party promoters were playing prince and the new power generation this man was pulling in english DJs fresh from New york and Detroit, mixing exstacy with a new form of disco this together with big stage shows spawned 'RAVE CULTURE' an almost forgoten punk era.
