Need your input re: my film, YOU

Hi Everyone,

Wow what a year I’ve had so far, starting with fulfilling one of my dreams to star on Broadway, singing, dancing and acting all at once! CHICAGO was a blast and Roxie is just a fantastic character to play 8 times a week! Thanks to those who came out to see me and I wish you could’ve all seen me in my bliss!!!

Now I’m about to fulfill another dream of mine to get our film, YOU, out into the world. YOU is my directorial debut and is quite a family affair and a real passion project. My husband wrote the screenplay, I directed it, we both star in it and co-produced it together, our kids are in it, my parents are in it and lots of wonderful and talented friends like Brenda Strong, Allison Mack, Joely Fisher, Jerry Hardin, Don Michael Paul, and one of my very best friends, Paula Cole, wrote the title song and sings it for us. YOU is a touching love story that seems to really be moving audiences and that makes me very proud and happy. Movies are to be seen and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

It may take a couple more months to get YOU out there, but, I’d love to know your thoughts on how we can best share some fun information with you about the film like virtual release parties etc. Also, we’re trying to figure out what information is the most important and interesting to you. If you could take a moment to tell me I’d love to know a couple of things. Firstly, What type of information you’re interested in; behind-the-scenes info, interviews, cast, crew etc. And secondly, How would you like to receive the information; post it here on MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, email updates etc.? Thank you in advance for helping us send YOU out into the wide world in an effective and exciting way and helping another one of my dreams become a reality. We can’t do it without you, the audience!!

With Many Thanks,

Melora

On the DVD please include Bloopers, Outtakes, Deleted Scenes, AUDIO COMMENTARIES (not the kind that people just say "it was an honor to work with them, great actor, etc., give behind the scenes info, like this scene took us 28 takes because we were laughing so hard, or this scene (which could be the 15th scene in the movie) was the FIRST production shot of filming, etc. We want to know what all happened on set, what worked, what didn't.

I see you are on Twitter (should have checked that before I posted a few minutes ago) and that is a great site with MAXIMUM exposure.

Twitter is all the rage now and accounts have increased 600% in the last 3 months. You'll get maximum exposure there. Go to ...com to link pages to your film's website to promote it. I'm in Phoenix, and I'd love to know if it will be released here. Sounds like a great cast and you have described it in such a way that I want to see it NOW!! Congrats on landing the role of Roxie in "Chicago". WOW!! I've never been to Broadway (or NY for that matter), but would love to someday and see some broadway shows. Gosh, if you can make it there, you can make it ANYWHERE! I love your work in tv and films, Melora.

MySpace has "bulletins" which show up on all your friends' pages. I would definitely suggest posting one. I know it could seem a bit "whorish," but I would also recommend asking your MySpace "friends" to then post their own bulletins about the film, with a link to the page, etc. It has worked wonders for spreading the word when I've needed some assistance with the rabbit rescue organization for which I volunteer.

Also make sure you post the link everywhere! Often! http://www.youthefilm.com

I watched the trailer today for the first time today, and I have to say it is the first and only time I've ever cried at a freakin' TRAILER. Jeeez... the film looks so so good.
I am dying to get it! (I just love Joely Fisher!!)

I'm really glad to have found out about this project! Okay, enough sitting around reading MySpace blogs... LET'S GET PIMPING!! (I'll go post a bulletin right now!) :)

    Take good care!

Definitely branch out to as many sites as possible, which seems to be the common consensus here. From there, tell your friends to tell a friend... and just go crazy with advertising. Youtube may be a good medium as well.

As for behind the scenes features, interviews are always great and so are bloopers... those are what I find myself watching the most. From the sound of this awesome project, especially a family one, the outtakes must be hilarious.

    Best wishes,

I say do all of the above. Set up a Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Website, etc. Make every opportunity available for fans to connect with the project through whichever avenue they prefer.
To cut down on the work of maintaining all of that, you can use great 3rd party sites like ping.fm.

Maybe even set up a couple different twitter accounts for actual characters in the film. Maybe you could release 1-2 minute High Quality clips over youtube and the official website along with semi-weekly video podcasts or interviews. The video views, twitter followers, and facebook fans could maybe even help get festivals more interested or wider distribution.

I always like behind the scenes things that deal with story bording, art direction, concept through post production- things like that. Bloopers are a must.
Best of luck!!! Congrats on broadway!!!
