Melpomeni is the muse of tragedy in ancient Greek mythology. I like her. We speak regularly. In other words, I am a Drama Queen and rather proud of the fact.
I am free.
If I could rub the genie's bottle, I'd like to have coffee with Bob Dylan, a session in the studio with Scott Walker and a bottle of red wine with Diamanda Galas.
If I could be any historical person, I'd be a lighthouse keeper.
I play my miseries all around the world to lots of lovely people with generous ears. I recently shared a stage with Boy George in London for a celebration of Marc Bolan's birthday which was a glittering ball of light and a fabulous event for a very glamorous man. Some nights, when I remember to take my piano home, I play to nobody which I like just as much. The only problem is my neighbours. They want to shoot me, especially when I play 'I Want Him Dead'. I think they take it personally.
My forthcoming album, '9 Tragedies, 3 Love Songs and a Breakdown' is an exploration of the darker side of paradise.
Keep checking this site for more psychodrama and details of upcoming gigs.
Here's what producer Mike Bennett (The Fall, Stone Roses, The Stranglers) had to say about it: 'Melpomeni finds shelter from convenient categorisation in a dense thicket of moody orchestration, lyrical ambiguity, and a quirky take on light and shade. I always go for someone with a strong sense of individuality and pathos. She is one of these unique characters who always provides a spark of surprise.'
My debut release, 'I Need A Man' is about an argument with a botox needle when it looms and threatens one's expression. It features my sewing machine in the background (who has never had botox and consequently sings in perfect rhythm). It's out now on Lighthouse Records in digital download format via The Orchard, servicing iTunes, E-Music, Last FM, Napster amongst others. Watch out for the lush new video on music channels soon or preview it here.
Hello Melpomeni, the Cd that you gave me in Columbus is brilliant. I'm looking forward to the new one, and the return of the Baebes. My mother's best friend's name is Melpomeni as well..she called her Melpo..of course with the rolled R. See you soon.
Hi Mel, Great photo! How are you? Have you had your pegging interview yet, lol! Just managed to hear your songs, there great. Sounds a bit like PJ Harvey too. x
Dear Pom.... Hello, I hope things are all bright and musical for You. I just was reading your profile and I saw the remark about wanting to be a lighthouse keeper... How marvelous!!!! that one statement speaks whole volumes about you... It has long been a fantasy of mine.... such solitude and oneness with the elements...not good weather for a piano though.... unless of course it's an antique and well seasoned.. of course there's always digital but the ghosts beneath the staircase may not approve.. ;-D
First, it was the name that caught my attention as I am Greek. The muse of tragedy...interesting I thought. Then I listened to your songs and saw your pictures. Haunting, bewitching.
Dear Pom... I just wanted to stop by and wish you a Very Happy New Year.... I love your music very much... especially "Are We Even Now" which Claire turned me on to on her profile page... "Baby, Baby!!!!" I just Love that!!! ;-D

HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND. An Ode to a working woman....
My shoulder will be yours to cry on My face to tell your fears to My heart to be your safe harbor... My hugs to be your foundation when you cant stand My laugh to be your smile... All my memories to be yours My hand in yours will be there to squeeze
My eyes to help you see My voice for you when you cant speak
Through thick and thin... Through far and wide...
I will be here...
