Melrose Vintage was Established in 1986 as a Wholesale Distributor of
mostly Vintage Denim, by 1992 Business was so booming that it was obviouse
a retail store would be in order, thusly the first Melrose Vintage was born
(now the Havana House). We where a little shop in a part of Whittier then
reffered to as "The Village" and yes we had lots of "Village
People" wandering the streets. People like Peaceman and Joker with
bands like Mazerka and The Mexwings. You see it was really an unregulated
forgotton part of town that had shops like Beans where Poetry Readings where
done and many used Book and Antique stores that Populated the area. Things unfortunately
Change, some say for the better but as rising rents increased small independent
shops moved out so now "The Uptown Area" has a Second Wind and
a resurgance of new businesses have come in. We are proud to have a heritage
in the area. Although we are called a "Vintage" Store we do sell
new merchandise. You see a City Ordinace come to play that does not allow
"Vintage" Stores on Greenleaf, so when we underwent the final move
we had no choice but to put in new merchandise. Fortunately we now have
tons of "New Old" merchandise that is brand new from the 70's
and 80's. We still feature Levis both new and used and have a good collection
of mens dress pants.
You have the CUTEST dress in your display window - I almost ran over the Whittier police officer standing on the street lol. I have to stop and say shellosies!
