  • General

Check out the blog - I'm writing about the launch of Nicholas Dane. And other stuff. I love reading, obviously, and all forms of stories - story telling, films, TV, you name it. I love wildlife - I feed the birds in my garden and get woodpecIers, nuthatches and all sorts - that makes me very happy. i love walking - usualy around Chorlten water park and other sites around the river Mersy, but somtimes futher afield, in the Peaks or round about Manchester. And cooking - you have to eat, so you might as well make a meal of it. I spend ages shopping for stuff and preparing food.

Not a lot just now, I'm bored with all my music. Anyone got any suggestions?

About me:

Apologies apologies to everyone who wrote over the past year or so ... I was absant without leave from MySpace. Truth is, I got a bit over whealmed with stuff on Beebo, facebook, my website adn all that - so I stopped nearly all of it. But here I am again - prompted I must admit by me new book out. I promise to stay here this time. Got me noo book out June 4th - Nickolas Dane. Big book, big scale, big characters. It's all about a boy, his mum dies and finds himself without a carer. Social serices put him into a children's home. This is in the mid eighties, and we all know the dreadful things that happened in children's homes during that period. The book is based on interviews with people who were actually in those places at that time, and the thing that impresed me was that tehy weren't people with wrecked lives - they were in there trying to escape adn grab what they could of life. The book is harrowing, obhviously, but it tries to get that spirit across. Nickolas Dane, published by Andersen Press, ISBN 978-1-84270-181-2 ..

    Music Recomendations

You may like it, you may not, but my two all-time favorite bands are Smashing Pumpkins and Deftones, in fact, i read "Smack "(U.S ...yeah) in english class where we had to create a music compilation that shared a theme with the novel, i used nothing but Smashing Pumpkins and among my favs is "Stumbleine." The song lyrics are really beautiful if you think about the novel while reading it, great poetry in my opinion and for me that's what music is all about

    "Stumbleine" - Smashing Pumpkins

Boredoms in the bathroom shaking out the loose teeth
Sally's in the stirrups claiming her destiny
    And nobody nowhere understands anything
About me and all my dreams
    Lost at sea
Jack it up judy set your heart alight
    Mayfair mistress of the satellites
Misspent youth- faking up a rampage
To hold off the real slaves
    Paid off and staid
    And what you never knew
    Can never get to you
    So fake it
    I'll be your stumbleine
    I'll be your super queen
    And make you
Jukebox fuckup hanging round the drugstore
No matter what you say he'll be back for more
Mommy's in the manger with the little kids
She's got her reasons, got my forgets
    Of tears and idle threats
    Misplaced
And no matter what they do
    They can't get to you
So fake it I'll be your stumbleine
    I'll be your super queen
    And make you me
    Come around ruby
    I could never sleep alone

Hi Melvin, just to let you know I've booked to hear your talk at the Oxford Literary Festival on Sunday - look forward to meeting you! VERY much enjoyed Sara's Face recently, an extraordinary tale and sadly reflective of our image-obsessed society.
    Best wishes, Jo
