Melvin Leonard hails from the colorful southern city of New Orleans, Louisiana. His grandfather, Walter Manaday played drums for Louis Armstrong, and his mother, Mary Sterling Leonard played honky-tonk blues piano and in church, along with having a superb velvet voice. Melvin grabbed a pair of drumsticks before he grabbed his first bottle and he has been pounding out rhythms for as long as he could remember. Singing at church and other events, at the tender age of 10, these talents began to develop Melvin’s childhood with music, song and appreciation for the unique southern sound named “funk”.
His professional career started in the internationally acclaimed nightclubs of the New Orleans French Quarter. As a singer, songwriter and producer, Melvin’s style of singing is funky and he is likely to become one of the hottest stars of the R&B world.
Melvin’s first new CD release was titled the “Melvin Leonard: The Prince of the Blues” in 1996. It got a lot of appreciation and took off like a rocket. The songs on this CD are:

The greatest moments in Melvin’s career have been playing his music live. He has played with some of the greatest artists in the music industry, including; The Heart’s of Soul Band, The City News Band, the The Profascinations Pro’s Band, The Chapelrals Band, Jean Knight, Irmas Thomas, King Floyd, Aaron Neville, O.V. Wright, Z.Z. Hill, Arnie Kato, Antioine and Anatole Domino Jr…are just to name a few.
