About MEMBER OF THE TRICK

So TRICKSKI were the logical choice of people to do a new club orientated series for Sonar Kollektiv. The goal was to be to squeeze the very wide musical spectrum of Sonar Kollektiv into a series of club tracks which would cause a stir in the DJ community. And so the unmistakable and quickly identifiable Member Of The Trick concept was born.

Even the title of the series expresses how involved TRICKSKI are with this 12" series. YANNICK LABBÉ and DANIEL BECKER are responsible for the artist as well as track selection and the coherent artwork comes from the pen of DANIEL BECKER who, beside TRICKSKI, also works for the design agency Goldener Westen. Any one of the tracks that has so far appeared as part of Member Of The Trick could have come out of a TRICKSKI DJ-set – perfectly self-conscious and humourfull just like TRICKSKI’s own musical style.

Over the course of this series TRICKSKI have managed to put out one release every two months and so propagate their vision of contemporary club music. They are horrified by unapproachable DJs who present themselves as gods from behind the decks. Clubs are no place for discussions on pop theory but rather just a good place for a party. And so if there’s one thing that should on no account be missing from an M.O.T.T. it’s a good portion of eclectic humor. This music rocks effortlessly. Unusual vocal samples have their place just as much as thumping bass-drums and hymn like synth sequences – playing wildly with reverb or classic house crooner vocals by TOWER-OF-POWER legend HUBERT TUBBS – all with a secret aura.
