The Menagerie stormed onto the UK Hip-Hop scene a few years ago, and are swiftly making a name for themselves as one of the dopest crews from the South East of England, through their energetic live shows and recently released LP, Wild Kingdom.
The main core of the Menagerie consists of three emcees: Dr Syntax, whose appearances around the country with the Foreign Beggars have earnt him critical acclaim, Professor Elemental, the mad inventor for whom no subject matter is out of reach, and Koaste, formerly of 360 Physicals and Last Men Standing who brings his boundless energy to stages around the country.
Behind the turntables is the domain of DJ Nick Maxwell, whose Adventures In Hip-Hop mixtapes have won him considerable plaudits and followers in recent years. Beats for the crew come from production heavyweights, Tom Caruana and the notorious crate digger Ido, whose rapid work rate ensure that the Menagerie have some of the best beats around.
Hailing from Brighton, Menagerie have headlined the annual Hip-Hop festival there for the last two years, and opened for some of Hip-Hop's luminaries at venues around town and across the country.
The Menagerie dropped debut album Wild Kingdom on Esperanto Records in 2005, and received rave reviews across the board. UKHH.com called it, "in the most part, faultless", and "one of the albums of the year". We have a few things going on this year and are just stopping by to let you know about them and thank you for all your help your continual support. As an Independent band we’ve achieved more than we could imagine and are very grateful to everyone that helps spread the good word of the Underling. We have recorded and self released our debut album on Cymatics records. Available now online from itunes, tune tribe, napster etc and we have a limited number of 12” Vinyl and Cd versions that we will make available on our website as well as at upcoming live dates. Support that organic shroom bap music. As previously mentioned we are unsigned and we all work very hard to push the positive vibrations. We are currently booking a tour/ UK live dates. All we have is ourselves, friends, work ethic and a lot of good music. We personally arrange every aspect of touring/ playing live and unfortunately a lot of even getting a gig boils down to who and not what you know. If you can put us on to the right people, venues etc to cook up some parties in your area then that would be amazing. If you’re willing to help us get people to shows in your town then we will forever be grateful. Word of mouth is the best way this works and we rely heavily on the people to spread that love around. Tell that venue where you live that usually plays dire music to put us on! We can sort you out with posters flyers etc and help get you into those shows gratis.
