Hailing from North Carolina, Megafaun are good pals with Justin Vernon a.k.a. ‘Bon Iver’ (and even used to play together with him as DeYarmond Edison!). After Justin left, the brothers in the band (Brad and Phil Cook) and their good friend Joe Westerlund went on to form Megafaun and released debut album Bury the Square in 2007. They are still best of friends and regularly support Bon Iver on tour!
After recently signing to Portland's Hometapes Megafaun released highly anticipated second album ‘Gather, Form & Fly’ this year, receiving some brilliant reviews (“All the sounds and ideas emanate from the same sources and desires, and the prismatic contrasts between them illuminate this intriguing and heartfelt album.” Pitchfork.com).
Their songs deliver some great folk harmonies with some interesting psychedelic mysticism (and three-part harmonies!). The Rolling Stone rate their music very highly (as well as their beards!)…"Megafaun's roots are familiar; the bloom is uniquely theirs… If You’re looking for a version of Fleet Foxes, with stars in their eyes and beards made of clouds."
