About Meng Tian
If the artistic output reflects the lifestory of an artist, then this girl already has quite a bit to tell.
Born and raised in Tianjin Meng got in touch with music rather early. In this richly artsy and also fourth biggest city by urban population in China she started her journey by playing classical music on the piano. In her teenage years she moved to Switzerland with her family. A turning point that would not only bring a different culture and multiple new languages to dive into, but also new space for musical development. It was in highschool band workshops where she discovered music beyond the classical world and her voice. Soon she began to write her own songs. Loads of songs and a few years later Meng released the debut album during her undergraduate studies. The CD entitled „New Start“ (Longplay Records/Musikvertrieb, April 2008) contains a well-chosen collection of songs to tell the story of a young girl growing up in the foreign and the unknown. A story filled with usual and unusual problems in this process of growing; aiming to find a new path and last but not least: the own identity.
With „New Start“ Meng went on tour both with her band and solo. They played in Switzerland and Germany in 2008 and 2009. The live experience of playing the material brought in new impulse how she could musically evolve to uncharted territory of songwriting. So once finished with studies, she moved to New York early 2010 thanks to the artist scholarship of the city of Zurich. In the vibrating melting pot where anything could be found, the young artist absorbed with eyes and ears wide open plus fresh ideas yet to be explored. She continued the journey of seeking her own sound and path of life – which led her to Beijing again early 2011, not far from Tianjin where she was born. Because the thing is: No matter how far you’ve already travelled, it’s only when you find roots, your wings will then truly take you to new adventures.
After all these enriching journeys and musical experiences and encounters in different places, Meng returned to Zurich. Together with her new band she’s currently working on her second album. So this musical journey is soon to be continued on this side of the ocean not only live, but also on the discography. Be sure to watch it grow.

irgendjemand hat mal gesagt, das selbstgesprach ist das einzige gespräch, das gelingt...aber so recht galube ich nicht daran. aber natürlich muss man sich mit sich selbst auseinandersetzen tagtäglich und reflektieren; aber ich bin froh, dass ich das nicht immer alleine tun muss. naja, es hat ja niemand von ausschliesslichkeit gesprochen - und im monolog liegt viel kraft und ruhe. kennst du von oscar peterson, soliloquy? damals musste ich noch meine englischlehrerin fragen, was das wort bedeutet, hihi.
