These reviews are from when we were called Deceptikon. As of early May 2008, we are now Mentira. Nothing changed but the name. Metal on. :)
“What a totally different sound, and yeah, I love it...” The melting pot sessions podcast (http://www.peoplesrepublicofsouthdevon.co.uk/downloads/)
"What a great contagious sound, fantastic vocals and tight instrumentation. I really like "dark hour" the best of your songs on myspace....but they are all good. Your looks are also very marketable." (Clairissa, VP of A&R, Music Business Connection)
"With a confident, anthemic feel to it, 'Cold' is a good place to start when listening to these guys, with a style placed between middle of the road rock and satisfyingly heavy metal. This certainly will help to attract more fans, and the guitar solo to end the track is the proverbial icing on the cake. And a good one, at that! 'Dark Hour' will be the band's debut single, and is in a heavier vein to 'Cold'. Yet the in-your-face style will win a lot of fans, and will set their stance from the start. 'Cirkus' is similar here, with a heavy emphasis on the drum intro. A slower building track, it is darker, and offers sufficient quality to complete a solid 3 song offering." "Leicester's premiere metal group...well entitled to be proud of their strong vocals and melodies that set them apart from so many other generic metal bands of the same generation." (Gig review in The Ripple)
"The hard rock line up at the Shed, headlined by Dudley band Martyr De Mona demonstrated what a good show is all about - five well chosen, musically balanced bands all of whom were excellent at what they were doing - playing great rock music. With hardly one cover all night, we were treated to some amazingly good songwriting.
The lineup worked: the evening began with a bang - Deceptikon's set of metal songs brought cheers from the audience who clearly appreciated the local band's roaring bass riffs, skillful guitar work and engine-like drumming.
Five top bands of equal quality, a well balanced selection of complimentary musical styles (enough variation to be enjoyable) and a crowd who stayed together throughout the night - why can't all gigs be like this.
Bands in order of play: Deceptikon, Negative Brody, Martyr de Mona, Set in Stone, Aikon."

"I can't remember the last time I compared a vocalist to Faith No More's, Mike Patton but Deceptikon's Gareth, the singer/guitarist with Leicester metal outfit Deceptikon is exactly that on their EP 'Dark Hour' which is a major plus in my book. The EP delivers some monster, crushing metal riffs on tracks like 'Dark Hour' and 'Cirkus' along with twin guitars and gut shaking bass. All good metal fare with the spin of Gareth and his unique edged vocals over the top. As a metal fan I have to give the thumbs up to Deceptikon, especially as they're not getting dragged into the Trivium/Avenged Sevenfold style stereotypical formats and I desperately want to big them up some more...
...overall Deceptikon deliver some massive, big-assed crunching riffs and some great ideas despite occassionally getting a bit adventurous and going ragged around the edges, but hopefully this should tighten up with some regular gigging maybe, I hope so. Bravely, Deceptikon describe themselves in their bio as "...one of Leicesters leading metal acts". I'm not going to argue with them, I don't know any of Leicester's metal acts, leading or otherwise, but with the tools that they have already and a set of pipes like Gareth's, they're in with a reasonable shout.
RANK: **** 4 out of 6" (http://www.musicreveiw.com/28.html)
