MENTALLICA and its Inhabitants
A true castaway on the vast oceans of the Mind, Mentol Nomad has been plying his trade on the New York underground for the better part of the '90s. After being inducted into the Order of the Crooked Knights following a festival in Nantes, France in '99, the Nomad has been a footsoldier in the war against mediocre music, keeping the underground fed from the 1 and 2's. Then, the come-up: a masterful performance in last year's cult-classic CRoOKeD (WSCD041), to which he also contributed tracks. Now, many moons and tainted twists of fate later, the Nomad finally rises to the task of his solo debut, a kaleidoscopic journey through the parallel dimension called Mentallica...and its Inhabitants (WSCD043).
On a mission beyond the within, Mentol shows he's capable of traversing many types of terrain. On Mentallica, he deftly combines ambient atmospheres with crackling beats, leaden basslines, euphoric samples and electronic washes, creating seething layers of sound which mutate with each passing moment like radioactive decay. The result is a masterpiece of downtempo darkness, covered with a veil of light. The soundtrack to the dreams of a man with much on his mind. Mentol Nomad says, "It's not anything to shake your ass to, but it is composed to have you feel many emotions--some of it dark, some of it light, all of it me."
So what more can be said? While not easy to describe in words, Mentallica, like all good drugs, is best experienced, preferably late at night, on a big system, with some incense and candles burning, and a strong desire to be one with the essence. Campfire music for the lost souls....
Mentol Nomad is coming from a Brooklyn hip-hop label (the great WordSound) but it's not really hip-hop. It's ambient, but more evil than that, so some electronic music lovers open-minded enough to explore will probably find some excellent experiences inside.
Regardless of it's 'cross-over', though, it's definitely one of my recent faves because I don't get nearly enough bold music. Above all else, that's exactly what this is.
Trying to definitively define Mentol Nomad's 'Mentallica and Its Inhabitants' is a frustratingly daunting and ultimately unachievable task. I'm sure if one were so inclined this could simply be summed up as horror-hop - evil, lurking mental music churning up urban soundscape structures that terrorize, mythologically turning the simple art of music listening into a complex and vastly affecting practice.
I would suggest that understanding isn't necessary though. It rather detracts from the experience, dilutes the aural adventure that the Mental Nomad takes you on. Simply closing one's eyes and allowing these maliciously discomforting compositions to sweep over easily conjures anything from images of stalking butlers to evil, hooded monks preparing for a forbidden ceremony.
Without lyrics of any type this all-electronic summary feels well suited as an updated soundtrack for the silent film classic Nosferatu if one were so inclined to boldly enhance an already sensational piece of celluloid.
Still, besides the imagination Mentallica forces a listener to adapt to this vividly dreadful project, it is intelligent, never striking a false note that might temporarily shatter the mood. It is sturdily crafted, never resorting to any predictable or plastic horror sounds in order to accomplish its goals. It is quite obviously meticulous, darkly passionate and sensational in every spooky corner it builds in its 17 rooms of aural storytelling.
This is one of those rare and precious musical gifts one is quite pleased to have given themselves - so long as they're not too frightened by what they've discovered within.

To try to classify this instrumental opus would raise of a challenge so much the universe of Mentol Nomad appeals to as different as sometimes incompatible audio styles: down tempo, abstract, ambient, mental, industrial, jazzy. Rocked by the Brooklyn hip hop culture, Daniel Dejesus (the agriculture, Tigerbeat, Suppon Records) invites here to the exploration of his subconscious. Basketball and rap represent two legitimate routes out of the ghetto. But for every Michael Jordan and Puff Daddy, there are millions of youths living below the poverty line, who will never make it--largely due to to circumstances beyond their control. Sensational, a member of this nameless, faceless multitude is determind not to end up as a statistic. He is strong-willed, confident, and charismatic, and makes some the most innovative and original music ever heard. His dream--really his sole aim in life--is to break into the music industry and become a rap star. But trouble follows him like a shadow.
Crooked presents the real-life story of Sensational, who pursues his dreams despite harrowing odds, facing numerous trials and tribulations along the way. It is not the typical urban tale of another thug or drug dealer, but of a true artist and eccentric trying to fit into a mainstream world of commerce and mass culture. In this crooked world where cash rules, hype prevails over truth, illusion over reality, and loyalty and trust are precious commodities.
Sensational's aspirations are given a tremendous boost early on when he meets Xane at an open-mic competition in Brooklyn. A Hispanic kid from the 'hood who made good and went to an Ivy league college, Xane combines street smarts with worldliness and social savvy. He is also heavily into deejaying and music, but works as a marijuana delivery man while trying to figure out his calling in life. One of Xane's customers turns out to be Brad Lombardi, a former collegemate and typical Trustafundian, whose well-connected father set him up with a cushy A&R position at a major label, Reaction Records. It is also at Reaction where Xane meets and falls for Mo, a Dominican beauty who works as a publicist there.
When Xane almost gets busted by an undercover cop on the subway while carrying his deliveries, he decides it's time for a career change, and resolves to become Sensational's manager. Planning to pursue a traditional record deal with Brad, Xane also works on putting out Sensational's music independently, on a label he hopes to start.
Sensational suffers a major setback when he is evicted from his apartment, and finds himself living a hand-to-mouth existence on the streets. He winds up spending the night in jail for selling marijuana to an undercover cop. In a desperate attempt to make money, Sensational, with the aid of Sachs, a computer hacker buddy of Xane's, concocts a scheme to counterfeit money. They are successful, and Sensational goes on a huge shopping spree, only to alert the feds with his reckless and excessive spending.
At a Reaction Records party, Xane introduces Sensational to Brad, securing a meeting with Brad to play him Sensational's demo. Sensational, who has some crack cocaine that a friend gave him to sell, ends up giving it to Brad, a serious cokehead, to curry favor. Later, at the meeting, Brad seems to be more interested in Sensational's drug connections than his music. Ever the opportunist, Sensational offers to help Brad get a kilo of cocaine in exchange for some free studio time to finish his demo. When Xane discovers Sensational's plans they have a falling out. Xane also splits with Mo after he discovers that she and Brad have been involved with each other.
Meanwhile, Sensational convinces Sachs to help him counterfeit one more batch of money. He substitutes the fake money for Brad's real money, and uses it to pay for the coke in a deal that goes down at the Brooklyn Navy yard. With money in his pockets and a week of free studio time to complete his demo, Sensational's dream finally appears to be within reach. But with the feds on the case and an angry drug-dealer, who finds out he's been cheated, everything is far from straight.***************************************************************

IMAGE EYE NATION expresses universes of emotions and unparalleled visual soundscapes. While words are insignificant to capture this realm beyond the senses, this music can only be described as heavy, hypnotic, esoteric, trance-inducing, and conjuring dream states. This time around mentol receives support in the mix by COLORFORM, an American producer with whom he has collaborated on several projects in the past (including 2003’s “AURAL CONTRABAND,” a limited edition 12-inch vinyl release on Colorform’s imprint Liberation Systems).

Dopo aver trascorso parte della propria vita immerso nella cultura musicale hip hop e rave, aver fatto il DJ, essere entrato nella scuderia Wordsound e aver partecipato al film ‘Crooked’ (scritto, prodotto e diretto da Skiz Fernando - aka Spectre), Daniel Dejesus assume le sembianze di Mentol Nomad non solo per caratterizzare le proprie serate nei locali, ma anche per rilasciare i suoni da lui composti. Vede così la luce il lavoro di debutto ‘Mentallica... And It’s Inhabitants’, a cui fa seguito un lungo periodo di silenzio compositivo interrotto dalla pubblicazione di ‘Image Eye Nation’. Il disco colleziona quindici brani che confermano la volontà del musicista di New York di trasportare l’ascoltatore in un contesto visuale lontano dalla realtà quotidiana, ma che da essa prende spunto per i campionamenti e la creazione di ambientazioni. E i risultati sono straordinari. Illbient, laddove tale definizione identifica un mondo sonoro in cui atmosfere malate vengono utilizzate per supportare trame che conducono alla totale deformazione mentale attraverso strutture che mutuano, a proprio piacimento e in una prospettiva da soundtrack, tanto il dub più glaciale quanto il d’n’b più dilatato e iniettato di cospicue dosi di ritmiche, che mandano in estasi chiunque voglia andare in trip digitale esoterico. Il tutto viene poi elaborato all’interno di una pellicola per note, dove le scenografie hip hop non sincopate, prive di rime e gotiche di filiazione industriale (...!!!...) si adattano ai climi dell’ambient downtempo e oscura (come se la Cold Meat Industry fosse nata a Brooklyn e non in Svezia), sanno utilizzare l’elettronica stratificata e bastarda nell’esplorazione delle basse frequenze e giungono a lambire il noise nell’ottica Warp e i soundscape ipnotici. The job of debut ..Mentallica sees thus the light… And It's Inhabitants', to which ago followed along period of Hush compositivo interrupted from the publication of ..Image Eye Nation'. the disc colleziona fifteen pieces that confirm the will of the musician of New York to far away transport the listener in an visual context from the daily truth, but that from it takes to cue for the samplings and the creation of acclimatizations. And the result are extraordinary. La nuova prova di Mentol Nomad è addirittura sbalorditiva. A volte mi chiedo perché alcuni artisti non possano ottenere riconoscimenti abbondantemente superiori a quelli che comunque conseguono, dal momento che simili opere sono veri e propri capolavori. Chiaro che non stiamo parlando di un “qualcosa di facile” all’ascolto e so bene che non mi aspetto vendite da capogiro o alte posizioni di classifica. Certo che no; qui nulla è pop, nulla è mainstream, però mi pare doveroso che chi (editori, giornalisti, discografici e acquirenti) si muove in contesti non omologati, o almeno così vuol far credere, abbia il dovere di diffondere e supportare la musica che, per l’appunto, non è omologata e che - soprattutto - possiede un livello qualitativo e creativo di primissimo ordine. Già nei due dischi precedenti Daniel Dejesus aveva dato prova di un’abilità manipolativa non comune applicata a forme elettroniche mutanti, ma qui siamo all’apice. Meno potente (se così vogliamo esprimerci) per impatto, ma assai più subdolo, morboso e psicologicamente letale nello sviluppare le trame sonore. Il che vuol dire che i bassi e i beat ritmici, anziché abbattere i muri, preferiscono edificare stratificazioni di ambientazioni dove la somma dei frammenti raccolti, decomposti e ricomposti è tale da costruire un mosaico in cui i diversi cromatismi hanno dettagliatissime sfumature che tendono sempre al grigio industriale. Ormai Mentol Nomad è ben oltre le definizioni entro cui lo possiamo far rientrare, poiché ha già oltrepassato il concetto di post dub, post drum’n’bass e post illbient, se però vogliamo davvero esprimere la sua grandezza con un parallelismo allora permettetemi di dire che il figlio bastardo di DJ Krush, Scorn e Throbbing Gristle sarebbe in grado di produrre i brani contenuti in ‘Pineal Proof’. Definitivo!
The new test Mentol Nomad even staggering. Sometimes I wonder why some artists can not get awards grossly in excess of those who achieve, given that these works are true masterpieces. Clear that we are not talking about a "something easy" to listen and I know that I do not expect sales to be dizzy or high ranking positions. Of course not, nothing here is pop, nothing is mainstream, but I think that anyone should (editors, journalists, and record buyers) moves in non-approved, or so wants to believe, has a duty to disseminate and support the music that, in fact, is not approved and that - above all - have a level of quality and creativity of the first order. Already in the two previous discs Daniel Dejesus had demonstrated an ability not common manipulative applied to electronic forms mutants, but here we are at. Less powerful (if we are to speak) for impact, but much more subtle, psychologically morbid and lethal in the development of sound textures. Which means that the bass beat and rhythm, rather than break down the walls, they prefer to build layers of environments where the amount of debris collected, decomposed and recomposed is likely to build a mosaic in which the different colors have detailed nuances that tend always to gray industry. Mentol Nomad is now well beyond the definitions by which we can bring, since it has already passed the concept of post-dub, drum'n'bass and post illbient post, but if we really want to express his greatness with a parallel then let me say the bastard son of DJ Krush, Scorn and throbbing Gristle would be able to produce the tracks in 'Pineal Proof'. Daniel Dejesus alias MENTOL NOMAD offers indeed to us an Album terrifying as addictive as a puff of ace one evening of full moon: ambient unhealthy and claustrophobic, drum' low not throbbing and impenetrable, happy crunchy gross of dismantling, low black and viscous, effects which skid, are engulfed and disappear in the night, environment opaque, heavy and poisseuse with the bitter relents of petrochemical industry (New Jersey my love), break beats unstable and compact, disordered states psychotics which stick to the brain, deaf echoes, reverb misty, dark and cooled tablecloths, carbonized melodies which escape from the urban cauldron, lyrics cryptic and whimsical of Thought Canon (and excellent featurings of Sensational and HyperActiv), monstrous confinements of a bio mechanical breathing and throaty voice Tibetans, grooves thick which engorge and stiffens the nape of the neck and curve the spine, a mix staggering whose mysticism and macabre fascination form an indefinite mass grouillante and vertiginous spirals in which one is inserted and one drown to find on the other side of the black hole. Daniel DeJesus alias Mentol Nomad nous offre en effet un al bum terrifiant aussi addictif qu’une bouffée de crack un soir de pleine lune : ambient malsain et claustrophobe, drum’n’bass lancinante et impénétrable, beats crunchy brut de décoffrage, basses noires et visqueuses, effets qui dérapent, s’engouffrent et disparaissent dans la nuit, ambiance opaque, lourde et poisseuse aux relents âcres d’industrie pétrochimique (New Jersey mon amour), breakbeats instables et compactes, dérèglements psychotiques qui collent au cerveau, échos sourds et nauséeux, reverb brumeuse, nappes sombres et réfrigérées, mélodies carbonisées qui s’échappent du chaudron urbain, lyrics cryptiques et lunatiques du Thought Cannon (et des excellents featurings de Sensational et HyperActiv), chuintements monstrueux d’une respiration biomécanique et voix de gorges tibétaines, groove épais qui engourdit, raidit la nuque et courbe l’échine, et mix titubant dont le mysticisme et la fascination macabre forment une masse grouillante indéfinie et des spirales vertigineuses dans lesquelles on s’enfonce et l’on se noie pour se retrouver de l’autre côté du trou noir. Partial vinyl edition of the "Mentallica. And It's Inhabitants" CD album published in 2002 on the New Yorkean label WordSound. To try to classify this instrumental opus would raise of a challenge so much the universe of Mentol Nomad appeals to as different as sometimes incompatible audio styles: down tempo, abstract, ambient, mental, industrial, jazzy. Rocked by the Brooklyn hip hop culture, Daniel Dejesus (the agriculture, Tigerbeat, Suppon Records) invites here to the exploration of his subconscious. As of the first notes, we're thus unloaded in Mentallica, a kind of ghost city or imaginary no man's land, populated by imperceptible spectra. If the optimistic "3Rd Visions" and "Deity" still let foresee the possibility of escaping from this nightmare, "Fallen Angels" with its paranoiac atmosphere a la Hitchcock points out that we are in hostile ground and that somewhere, crouched in the darkness, the Evil watches for us. Clever mixes of deep emotions, mutant strings, unhealthy echoes and heading beats, the eight titles of the release sound as the improbable meeting between Kid Koala and Angelo Badalamenti. Basketball and rap represent two legitimate routes out of the ghetto. But for every Michael Jordan and Puff Daddy, there are millions of youths living below the poverty line, who will never make it--largely due to to circumstances beyond their control. Sensational, a member of this nameless, faceless multitude is determind not to end up as a statistic. He is strong-willed, confident, and charismatic, and makes some the most innovative and original music ever heard. His dream--really his sole aim in life--is to break into the music industry and become a rap star. But trouble follows him like a shadow.
Crooked presents the real-life story of Sensational, who pursues his dreams despite harrowing odds, facing numerous trials and tribulations along the way. It is not the typical urban tale of another thug or drug dealer, but of a true artist and eccentric trying to fit into a mainstream world of commerce and mass culture. In this crooked world where cash rules, hype prevails over truth, illusion over reality, and loyalty and trust are precious commodities.
Sensational's aspirations are given a tremendous boost early on when he meets Xane at an open-mic competition in Brooklyn. A Hispanic kid from the 'hood who made good and went to an Ivy league college, Xane combines street smarts with worldliness and social savvy. He is also heavily into deejaying and music, but works as a marijuana delivery man while trying to figure out his calling in life. One of Xane's customers turns out to be Brad Lombardi, a former collegemate and typical Trustafundian, whose well-connected father set him up with a cushy A&R position at a major label, Reaction Records. It is also at Reaction where Xane meets and falls for Mo, a Dominican beauty who works as a publicist there.
When Xane almost gets busted by an undercover cop on the subway while carrying his deliveries, he decides it's time for a career change, and resolves to become Sensational's manager. Planning to pursue a traditional record deal with Brad, Xane also works on putting out Sensational's music independently, on a label he hopes to start.
Sensational suffers a major setback when he is evicted from his apartment, and finds himself living a hand-to-mouth existence on the streets. He winds up spending the night in jail for selling marijuana to an undercover cop. In a desperate attempt to make money, Sensational, with the aid of Sachs, a computer hacker buddy of Xane's, concocts a scheme to counterfeit money. They are successful, and Sensational goes on a huge shopping spree, only to alert the feds with his reckless and excessive spending.
At a Reaction Records party, Xane introduces Sensational to Brad, securing a meeting with Brad to play him Sensational's demo. Sensational, who has some crack cocaine that a friend gave him to sell, ends up giving it to Brad, a serious cokehead, to curry favor. Later, at the meeting, Brad seems to be more interested in Sensational's drug connections than his music. Ever the opportunist, Sensational offers to help Brad get a kilo of cocaine in exchange for some free studio time to finish his demo. When Xane discovers Sensational's plans they have a falling out. Xane also splits with Mo after he discovers that she and Brad have been involved with each other.
Meanwhile, Sensational convinces Sachs to help him counterfeit one more batch of money. He substitutes the fake money for Brad's real money, and uses it to pay for the coke in a deal that goes down at the Brooklyn Navy yard. With money in his pockets and a week of free studio time to complete his demo, Sensational's dream finally appears to be within reach. But with the feds on the case and an angry drug-dealer, who finds out he's been cheated, everything is far from straight.***************************************************************

IMAGE EYE NATION expresses universes of emotions and unparalleled visual soundscapes. While words are insignificant to capture this realm beyond the senses, this music can only be described as heavy, hypnotic, esoteric, trance-inducing, and conjuring dream states. Brutta bestia (da intendersi in senso positivo) Mentol Nomad. Dopo aver trascorso parte della propria vita immerso nella cultura musicale hip hop e rave, aver fatto il DJ, essere entrato nella scuderia Wordsound e aver partecipato al film ‘Crooked’ (scritto, prodotto e diretto da Skiz Fernando - aka Spectre), Daniel Dejesus assume le sembianze di Mentol Nomad non solo per caratterizzare le proprie serate nei locali, ma anche per rilasciare i suoni da lui composti. Vede così la luce il lavoro di debutto ‘Mentallica... And It’s Inhabitants’, a cui fa seguito un lungo periodo di silenzio compositivo interrotto dalla pubblicazione di ‘Image Eye Nation’. Il disco colleziona quindici brani che confermano la volontà del musicista di New York di trasportare l’ascoltatore in un contesto visuale lontano dalla realtà quotidiana, ma che da essa prende spunto per i campionamenti e la creazione di ambientazioni. E i risultati sono straordinari. Illbient, laddove tale definizione identifica un mondo sonoro in cui atmosfere malate vengono utilizzate per supportare trame che conducono alla totale deformazione mentale attraverso strutture che mutuano, a proprio piacimento e in una prospettiva da soundtrack, tanto il dub più glaciale quanto il d’n’b più dilatato e iniettato di cospicue dosi di ritmiche, che mandano in estasi chiunque voglia andare in trip digitale esoterico. Il tutto viene poi elaborato all’interno di una pellicola per note, dove le scenografie hip hop non sincopate, prive di rime e gotiche di filiazione industriale (...!!!...) si adattano ai climi dell’ambient downtempo e oscura (come se la Cold Meat Industry fosse nata a Brooklyn e non in Svezia), sanno utilizzare l’elettronica stratificata e bastarda nell’esplorazione delle basse frequenze e giungono a lambire il noise nell’ottica Warp e i soundscape ipnotici. The job of debut ..Mentallica sees thus the light… And It's Inhabitants', to which ago followed along period of Hush compositivo interrupted from the publication of ..Image Eye Nation'. the disc colleziona fifteen pieces that confirm the will of the musician of New York to far away transport the listener in an visual context from the daily truth, but that from it takes to cue for the samplings and the creation of acclimatizations. And the result are extraordinary. La nuova prova di Mentol Nomad è addirittura sbalorditiva. A volte mi chiedo perché alcuni artisti non possano ottenere riconoscimenti abbondantemente superiori a quelli che comunque conseguono, dal momento che simili opere sono veri e propri capolavori. Chiaro che non stiamo parlando di un “qualcosa di facile” all’ascolto e so bene che non mi aspetto vendite da capogiro o alte posizioni di classifica. Certo che no; qui nulla è pop, nulla è mainstream, però mi pare doveroso che chi (editori, giornalisti, discografici e acquirenti) si muove in contesti non omologati, o almeno così vuol far credere, abbia il dovere di diffondere e supportare la musica che, per l’appunto, non è omologata e che - soprattutto - possiede un livello qualitativo e creativo di primissimo ordine. Già nei due dischi precedenti Daniel Dejesus aveva dato prova di un’abilità manipolativa non comune applicata a forme elettroniche mutanti, ma qui siamo all’apice. Meno potente (se così vogliamo esprimerci) per impatto, ma assai più subdolo, morboso e psicologicamente letale nello sviluppare le trame sonore. Il che vuol dire che i bassi e i beat ritmici, anziché abbattere i muri, preferiscono edificare stratificazioni di ambientazioni dove la somma dei frammenti raccolti, decomposti e ricomposti è tale da costruire un mosaico in cui i diversi cromatismi hanno dettagliatissime sfumature che tendono sempre al grigio industriale. Ormai Mentol Nomad è ben oltre le definizioni entro cui lo possiamo far rientrare, poiché ha già oltrepassato il concetto di post dub, post drum’n’bass e post illbient, se però vogliamo davvero esprimere la sua grandezza con un parallelismo allora permettetemi di dire che il figlio bastardo di DJ Krush, Scorn e Throbbing Gristle sarebbe in grado di produrre i brani contenuti in ‘Pineal Proof’. Definitivo!
The new test Mentol Nomad even staggering. Sometimes I wonder why some artists can not get awards grossly in excess of those who achieve, given that these works are true masterpieces. Clear that we are not talking about a "something easy" to listen and I know that I do not expect sales to be dizzy or high ranking positions. Of course not, nothing here is pop, nothing is mainstream, but I think that anyone should (editors, journalists, and record buyers) moves in non-approved, or so wants to believe, has a duty to disseminate and support the music that, in fact, is not approved and that - above all - have a level of quality and creativity of the first order. Already in the two previous discs Daniel Dejesus had demonstrated an ability not common manipulative applied to electronic forms mutants, but here we are at. Less powerful (if we are to speak) for impact, but much more subtle, psychologically morbid and lethal in the development of sound textures. Which means that the bass beat and rhythm, rather than break down the walls, they prefer to build layers of environments where the amount of debris collected, decomposed and recomposed is likely to build a mosaic in which the different colors have detailed nuances that tend always to gray industry. Mentol Nomad is now well beyond the definitions by which we can bring, since it has already passed the concept of post-dub, drum'n'bass and post illbient post, but if we really want to express his greatness with a parallel then let me say the bastard son of DJ Krush, Scorn and throbbing Gristle would be able to produce the tracks in 'Pineal Proof'. Daniel Dejesus alias MENTOL NOMAD offers indeed to us an Album terrifying as addictive as a puff of ace one evening of full moon: ambient unhealthy and claustrophobic, drum' low not throbbing and impenetrable, happy crunchy gross of dismantling, low black and viscous, effects which skid, are engulfed and disappear in the night, environment opaque, heavy and poisseuse with the bitter relents of petrochemical industry (New Jersey my love), break beats unstable and compact, disordered states psychotics which stick to the brain, deaf echoes, reverb misty, dark and cooled tablecloths, carbonized melodies which escape from the urban cauldron, lyrics cryptic and whimsical of Thought Canon (and excellent featurings of Sensational and HyperActiv), monstrous confinements of a bio mechanical breathing and throaty voice Tibetans, grooves thick which engorge and stiffens the nape of the neck and curve the spine, a mix staggering whose mysticism and macabre fascination form an indefinite mass grouillante and vertiginous spirals in which one is inserted and one drown to find on the other side of the black hole. Daniel DeJesus alias Mentol Nomad nous offre en effet un al bum terrifiant aussi addictif qu’une bouffée de crack un soir de pleine lune : ambient malsain et claustrophobe, drum’n’bass lancinante et impénétrable, beats crunchy brut de décoffrage, basses noires et visqueuses, effets qui dérapent, s’engouffrent et disparaissent dans la nuit, ambiance opaque, lourde et poisseuse aux relents âcres d’industrie pétrochimique (New Jersey mon amour), breakbeats instables et compactes, dérèglements psychotiques qui collent au cerveau, échos sourds et nauséeux, reverb brumeuse, nappes sombres et réfrigérées, mélodies carbonisées qui s’échappent du chaudron urbain, lyrics cryptiques et lunatiques du Thought Cannon (et des excellents featurings de Sensational et HyperActiv), chuintements monstrueux d’une respiration biomécanique et voix de gorges tibétaines, groove épais qui engourdit, raidit la nuque et courbe l’échine, et mix titubant dont le mysticisme et la fascination macabre forment une masse grouillante indéfinie et des spirales vertigineuses dans lesquelles on s’enfonce et l’on se noie pour se retrouver de l’autre côté du trou noir.
