Sealed and ported boxes each have their own advantages and disadvantages. It is a matter of personal preference. Ported boxes are bigger than sealed, but tend to play louder. They must also be very precise in size and port dimensions or performance may suffer. Damage to the sub can also occur.

Sealed boxes are smaller, and have a smoother frequency response. They also tend to be more "forgiving" of minor errors in box size. They are not as loud, however. Volume vs. accuracy.

    Take your pick!

Hot topic! There are no laws or rules regarding methods for rating amplifier power. There is a CEA standard for amplifier ratings which some manufacturers comply with, but not all. The rule of thumb is as follows; NEVER NEVER go by "peak" or "max" power ratings!!! They are big numbers that mean absolutely NOTHING. Look for the "RMS" or "continuous" power rating. It is a lower number, but a more honest one. Then stick with one of the more reputable brands that will tend to be more honest about their ratings. There is a lot more to the power problem then I can explain here. I recommend you stop in at your local MERA member retailer for a more complete explanation. In your area, that is; The Ultimate Edge. 315-343-2995, www. ultimateedge. org.
