Spirited singer and song writer, Mercy, offers us a vocal style that is both richly melodious and passionate. As an artist, Mercy is deeply influenced by the greats that have gone before her including: Marvin Gaye; Phil Collins; Prince; The Red Hot Chilli Peppers; Musiq; Luther Vandross; Van Hunt; Simply Red; Aretha Franklin, Queen; Bob Marley; Lauren Hill and Stella Roman . Together with this, Mercy grew up listening to African music such as soukous; isicathamiya; afrobeat and afro-pop.
As a result, Mercy is all-encompassing in her approach to music in that she is a very versatile artist who draws upon this variety of influences in delivering an edgy yet blended soulful sound. Having realised from a very early age that she was artistically gifted Mercy triumphantly performed the lead role in her primary school productions ‘The Pied Piper of Hamlin and ‘The king and I’. Alongside this, Mercy joined her school choir and performed both at school and at Queen Mary University. Later, at secondary school, Mercy eagerly joined her school choir and successfully partook in school performances such as ‘Alice and Wonderland’ and ‘East Side’. In seeking to further swell her performance experience, Mercy also frequently participated in Tower Hamlet’s Summer University ‘Music Power Four’ where she gained her first valuable experience of studio recording as well as going on to skilfully perform in numerous showcases throughout the summer months. Having music at her very core, Mercy then seized the opportunity to formally study music at GCSE level- Mercy’s musical ability and sheer devotion was reflected by successfully gaining an ‘A’ grade. In having strengthened both her performance and skill levels, Mercy extensively developed her artistry further by successfully completing a performing arts and music technology course at London’s celebrated Hammersmith College.
Together with this, Mercy then travelled back to her choir roots by joining Little Ilford gospel choir where Mercy regularly performs at churches and show cases both in unison with the choir and as a lead soloist- much to the elation of the audience Later, in recognising the value of knowledge about the business sphere of the music industry, music sought out industry experience. In being so zealously self-determined, Mercy secured work experience at Sony Records as a marketing assistant. Here, Mercy gained a vast insight into the complexities of what happens behind the scenes of a major record label. Mercy’s time at Sony as furnished her with a learned and savvy business sense as a guide to her. Mercy has since gone onto work in various street teams putting the promotional skills she has learnt to great use in upping the profile of the client/s she represents.
At present, Mercy is spending much time in the studio creating her debut album . Mercy is a vivacious and truly unique individual who imbues her work such qualities to the point where we can only but wait with bated breath for the sonorous, vibrant yet smooth sounds of Mercy.
