   About Mercy Street

Mercy Street is a five-piece rock band with roots and Celtic influences. The band's sound combines the commercial rock elements of bands like Del Amitri with the big roots rock feel of REM and the Celtic rock sensibilities of Big Country and the Wonder Stuff. Mercy Street slumped gently into life sometime around 1997; guitarist James Abbot, fiddle player Pete Gyles and drummer Paul O’Brien were looking for a new musical outlet. Celtic rock band Life of Riley disbanded when the singer went to live in Ireland leaving the three to find a new singer or create a new band. They auditioned several vocalists before meeting Ade Thomas a quality rock vocalist with a taste for acoustic music. Ade’s voice gave them the idea of combining rock, acoustic and Celtic influences and to complement his style they turned to Grief Society & Jokers bassist Angus Nurse to complete the new band.

Mercy Street developed an easy collaborative style with all members suggesting songs and arrangements to suit the dual vocal approach of Thomas and Nurse and the combination of a rock-meets-roots rhythm section with electric and acoustic instruments. From their very first gigs Mercy Street proved to be a success and for a period of over five years the band played almost constantly taking in pubs, clubs, universities and a range of private functions.

Heading into Summer 2008 Mercy Street are still muttering about their first official record release but new gigs have been added to the schedule.

Excellent Gig at The Kings Arms last night gentlemen. Apologies if my 'dancing' was a bit exuberant.
Nice to see Angus again after 15 years

In Search Of A Rose - Kind Of Green

The Irish outlaw Reilly Ramones is not rambling along rainy green Irish valleys. This time he troubles the spotless under the hot Mexican sun and drowns Mariachi trumpets in Guinness.
Come and listen to the fine crossover of traditional irish tunes, Rock'n Roll and Hip Hop on the new album "Kind Of Green".
