So things are getting a little chilly around town. Sure, we’re not cowering in the cold remorseless heart of winter just yet, but we figure it’s best to get prepared early. So, in anticipation of the dropping temperature, we decided to add another body to the bunk and invite our good friend come-crazy-genius-fashion-director Stephanie Mountzouris on board as guest editor this month. Steph’s flair and originality have certainly spruced up the pages of the mag as well as our attitudes – which is definitely welcome amidst this climate of fearful economic jargon.
According to number crunchers, the troubling shadow of the Financial Crisise de la Global (it seems less scary in Spanish) is about to befall us here. Everyone in the know is warning that Australia has yet to really be hit by the GFC, and that we should expect the unemployment rate to rise significantly over the coming months. Sounds a bit like Merge has joined the bandwagon of media doom-sayers - WRONG. See, we’ve gone and spoken to the higher-ups in several industries to get the lowdown on what employers will be looking for in this current climate and subsequently we have the insider’s tips on how to get a job right now (p54). And if you’re worried about the coming chilliness of winter, we have just the thing: chilli beans (p46), lots of chilli beans. Also, you can warm the cockles of your heart by checking out world-class art from Dan McPharlin (p70), and getting a little closer to that special-someone-to-be on Gouger St (p36). But some things just don’t respond to warming and with the increasing cold, tend to, ahem, shrink. So you can now disregard our proud long website address as it was and just bump along to www.merge.com.au. Although it’s a bit shorter, we swear it’s just as effective
