  • Bio

I'm a singer and composer, a musical traveller between two worlds, passionate about exploring a musical dialogue between my Egyptian and German roots. Initially trained as a Western classical singer, I draws on both classical Arabic and Western contemporary influences in my music. I performs with my Arabic Jazz Trio Hjaz and my Arab/Eastern European ensemble Jaljala. My recent collaborations were with early music singers The Clerks, in their acclaimed programme 'Qudduson' (Sacred songs from East and West), with medieval ensemble Joglaresa and Peter Wiegold's ensemble 'notes inegalès'. Committed to exploring new musical avenues, I sing and compose contemporary vocal music for her Soprano Quartet Tongue Stuff and perform with the avantgarde New London Chamber Choir. I also teach at the Royal College of Music. In early 2012, supported by a Gerald Finzi Scholarship, I will be travelling to the Middle East, to research the chants of the Middle Eastern Christians. My debut album of interpretations of classical Arabic songs will be available later this year. .... .."a pliant, graceful voice" (Daily Telegraph 2009) .. .. .. In the magicalities of a could,
Between the probabilities of a would,
Beyond the trivialities of a should,
    In these ungraspable mysticalities
    There lies a secret a passage…
    To this extraordinary wood.

But for you, it unfolds easily and true
And the only thing you have to do
Is press play, and you’ll have a view.
