Drums and Percussion - Corvallis, OR
Greetings and thanks for stopping by and allowing me to waste some of your time. My name is Merlin Coryell and I'm a session and performance drummer. Behind the kit since age 11, with formal training in the early years. I have been paying dues in the Houston area gig and recording scene since 2001, and relocated to Corvallis, Oregon early in 2009. While I like to consider myself a Rock drummer (capturing my interests in classic rock, progressive metal and fusion), I have worked in nearly every genre drums can be put to. Now I am hard at work establishing new connections and creating some of the most challenging music I have attempted with Brothers of Grimm, a new thrash group. On the side, I have also been pretending to learn a little guitar for fun.
Keep an eye out here, or on my website for updates and other news, and thanks for dropping by.
I have had both the honor and "experiences" of playing with some of the best and worst that Houston has to offer. Here is a partial list of groups and musicians that I have worked with:
Brothers of Grimm
Avenger
Andronicus
Walt Gernand
Afterimage
John Morrison
The Myth
Gene Kelton
Chuvala
Brian Coryell
Budaka
Therapy
Jolly Rogers
Ardent
Texas Rattlers
I have also done session/recording work with the following groups:
The Myth (Austin, TX)
Ardent (Houston)
Morrison (Houston)
Zameer (Toronto, CA)
Stephanie Loomis & Unspoken Music (Houston)
*Much more information about past projects and musical background is available at the disgustingly under-updated MerlinCoryell.com
Available for sessions and performances in and around the Houston Area. For more information visit MerlinCoryell.com
You can add my old music page if you want, at myspace.com/welcometotamriel My friends and I are about to start a power metal project. So far we're one guitarist (me), a bassist and a vocalist.
Good to hear from ya. Avenger sounds fun, maybe I can catch a show this month. EP is on hold since Mike is on the East Coast for awhile, but I have been keeping busy playing bass for Opus Chaos and Chenoa Farrell, two completely different genres. If you know any venues that might like to have a 70's/80's hair rock cover band play, let me know. It would also be nice to dust off the guitar if you know anyone that needs a rhythm guitarist :).
Hey Merlin Coryell
Two new Song Samples from our forthcoming CD “RETROSPECTIVE” are online. Please feel free to comment…. Have a nice weekend!
