First of all, thanks for reading my bio! I don't want to act like it's your duty to know about me, so I really do appreciate it; hopefully sometime I can get to meet you and know you. So let me just get right to it (for a full bio, click the blog above that says 'WARNING! NOT A REGULAR BIO').
I was born in beautiful Asmara, Eritrea. I spent my most formative years in Nairobi, Kenya, and then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. I love my family (they're the best), I have a weird sense of humor, and I love music! There's a lot more to me (including a short attention span), so let's focus on why we're here.
My songs vary in being about love, about life, about me, about you, and the mood and emotions are diverse. Some of my songs are spiritual, others are serious, some are angry, others are happy, some are hopeful, and most are catchy, smooth and cool (hey, that's not arrogance; I could be pretending to be another person writing about me and it would sound ok!). Stylistically, the songs that I am performing now are acoustic, rhythmic, feel-good songs with some rock, reggae, pop, and funk influences. Hey, you just have to hear me and decide for yourself.

hey Meron -- you missed some terrific South Street Open Mics this week! Tuesday was packed out the door at Coquette Bistro -- some very strong performers including Kate who sang French songs and Erica who did old jazz classics acapella. We ran out of chairs & barstools inside, and all of the tables & most of the chairs were taken outside as well. It was a real fun Bastille Day blast!
Last night at Blue Bananas Cafe was also really good. There is an act that I arranged to play an early set before we get started which has a ton of potential & recently played at a West Philly Bob Marley festival. We were real busy, with a very varied line-up of performers. Cazze showed up and did some spoken word. And Erica came back from the night before at Coquette Bistro. Oh, and Dewey the owner from Bottom Of The Sea came in and hung out all night.
These South Street Open Mics are really taking off. A very cool scene is developing, and I'm hoping to expand on all of this for the Fall.

I had a lot of fun last night at our Open Mic at Dark Horse Pub. You did a terrific job of hosting and recruiting Zewdy as a Featured Performer. It was a very interesting mix of performers, and simply a lot of fun people to talk with & share a drink with.
Meron, you did a great job last night, and ForestGlen was a terrific choice for Featured Performer. Also tell Shek thanks for sticking around & performing.
