merrick's Interests
|
| General | Family. Writing. Movies. Television. Photography. Christmas. Martial Arts. HDTV. Reiki. Paranormal Phenomena. Astronomy. Music. History (general, military, cultural). Mythology & Speculative History (i.e. Atlantis). Science. Visual Effects. World War II. Superman. Metaphysics. Howard Stern. Video Games (I've owned nearly every console made, except for a Playstation 3 -- which isn't calling me just yet. And, at the price it's selling for, if it calls me I may not answer). UFOs. Am now diving into the production of short films; loving it. May post something here soon. I long to travel & feel like I belong somewhere other than where I am.
| | Music | Classical (Merrick's woman is an accomplished classical musician). Modern and classic rock. Big Band. Swing. Trans Siberian Orchestra (TSO). Moby. Soundtracks. Some pop stuff, although most sucks. Don't like rap, although I can deal with some of it. I *LOVE* Pink Floyd, but agree they can be ponderous. I don't mind certain country songs as long as it's not the twangy hick stuff.
| | Movies | Buckaroo Banzai. A Christmas Story. The Wizard of Oz (1939). InfraMan. The Last of the Mohicans (Michael Mann)...nearly *ANYTHING* Michael Mann, for that matter. Metropolis (1927). War of the Worlds (original). Saturday Night Fever/Staying Alive. Almost Famous. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure/Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. The Alien series. The Predator series. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Logan's Run. Star Wars (Episodes IV, V, and VI more than the rest). Crazy Japanese Stuff (Godzilla, War in Space, Battle in Outer Space, Message from Space, etc.) Rocky. Indiana Jones. Star Crash. Starship Invasions (aka Project Genocide). Die Hard (all of 'em, especially the first). Superman (even the lesser ones). James Bond. Dopey comedies. TRON. Blade Runner. The Last Starfighter. The Rock. The Day the Earth Stood Still. Bad Boys II. Battle Beyond the Stars. Forbidden Planet. The Black Hole. Planet of the Apes (original cycle). Early John Carpenter (Dark Star through the first half of Prince of Darkness - his career imploded after that). 2001. 2010. Ice Pirates. Some Ray Harryhausen films (but not all). V for Vendetta. Some Richard Donner films (but not all).

| | Television | Flash Gordon (animated). V. Star Trek (Original Series & Deep Space Nine far more than the rest). Seinfeld. The Rankin/Bass Christmas Specials (except Nestor the Long Eared Christmas Donkey - it makes me cry). The Simpsons. Muppets. Babylon 5 (hasn't aged will, but I still love it). Cosmos. Space Academy. Jason of Star Command. Ark II. The Andy Griffith Show. Some (but not all) M*A*S*H. That '70s Show. The Man From Atlantis. History Channel. Discovery Channel. Discovery Science. American Idol (there, I admitted it). Futurama. Jericho. Nanny 911 (there, I admitted THAT, too!). Ghost Hunters. Battlestar Galactica (classic & current). Space: 1999 (love those "Eagle" space ships). King of the Hill. Dog the Bounty Hunter. Salvage One.

About me:
If you're looking from Merrick from Aint it Cool News, you've found me! I'm 39 years old, and have two children (which should nicely dispel AICN Talkbacker's insistence that I'm a virgin).
I've been an unapologetic Geek all my life. Growing up, I worshiped nearly anything having to do with Science Fiction/adventure on the big or small screens. I can remember the network of nearly any TV show I watched, and can vividly recall the specific theaters in which I've seen any movie I've seen...this stuff makes THAT kind of imprint on me.
I've been an Internet journalist for over ten years; my writing has also appeared in several magazines (predominantly overseas) under my "real" name. I've also been heard on radio broadcasts under my real identity & done some public speaking.
I'm a script writer with several projects currently making the rounds.

Who I'd like to meet:
King Arthur. Galileo. da Vinci. Nostradamus. An ancient human (i.e. a "caveman"). Carl Sagan. A dinosaur (preferably a big one). Jesus Christ. The Beatles (just as they were hitting the States). Stephen Hawking. Steve Irwin (one of my children is partially named after him). An executive who wants to buy one of my scripts. As a side note, I met Gene Roddenberry when I was about seven years old - it changed my life. He asked me if I would like to come to L.A. to watch them film (what was then) the first episode of a new STAR TREK television series. My parents never followed up on this...one of the greatest regrets of my life.
