Music in general: early polyphonic choral music, band and orchestra music, gregorian chant, classical Persian music, pop, rock. Local artists whom I am inspired by their courage and energy.
Artists/Writers I like and feel I've been influenced by (in no specific order): Peter Gabriel, Fleetwood Mac, Alice Munro, T. S. Eliot, Beatles, Kinks, Manu Chao, Joni Mitchell, Paul Brady, Jimmy Ryan, Nat King Cole, Nick Drake, Johnny Cash, Melanie, Beach Boys, Dolly Parton, Ray Bradbury, William Trevor, Elliott Smith, Ozzie Osbourne, Stealer's Wheel -- so many I've forgotten to mention...
Winner of two Boston Music awards, one Boston Phoenix award, ASCAP Popular Music Awards, and a Jam Magazine award, Merrie has appeared on PRI /NPR radio shows "Here & Now", "Mountain Stage", "World Cafe", "Acoustic Cafe" and "E-Town." Merrie has toured with Paula Cole, Aimee Mann, and most recently Patty Larkin, whom she also backed up on bass, mandolin, and bouzouki on her Red = Luck tour. Merrie has sung the National Anthem for the Boston Red Sox six times, and the Boston Celtics.
Merrie's most recent release, Clementine and Other Stories is NOT a purist-only record - but more a collection of traditional American songs, untraditionally interpreted. Says Amsterburg, "I was struck by how light and happy the music sounded, yet the lyrics were so often to the contrary. I tried to arrange the music the way I hear the lyrics."
Both of Merrie's previous CDs "Season of Rain" and "Little Steps" were listed in the top ten albums of their release year by writers for the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Boston Phoenix, RollingStone.com, Improper Bostonian, Kansas City Star, Immedia Wire Service, NoHoLA magazine. Author Steve Erickson referenced Merrie's song "Opal Moon" (from Little Steps) throughout his most recent novel "Our Esctatic Days". "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" was recorded with Session Americana, for their first double CD.
Merrie's music is available through Amazon, iTunes, QDivision.com, or at any fine shop that still sells CDs.
Come by and listen to the new song "Losing Streak" from my record "One and Only Maybe", produced by Michael Eisenstein, available for purchase from my page. Peace. Seth.
If you love and miss THE BAND, here's your chance to experience the next best thing! The THE BAND Band has been lauded by critics as being "as close as it gets to the real thing," performing timeless classics such as "The Weight", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", and “Up On Cripple Creek” from The Band's legendary repertoire.
It’s been 40 years since The Band played at Woodstock, and over 32 years since their farewell concert, The Last Waltz. But while The Band may be long gone from the stage, The THE BAND Band is the perfect remedy for Band-starved fans everywhere!
