Merry Minstrels' newest project is GOOD PENNYWORTHS - a vocal quartet accompanied by lute, performing secular lute songs, theater songs, ballads and satiric dialogues, all with tongue firmly in cheek. Garald Farnham, Artistic Director, founded Merry Minstrels, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, over 20 years ago to share Renaissance music with audiences of all ages. Since its inception, the company has performed in New York City at such venues as the World Trade Center, the South Street Seaport, the New York Stock Exchange, the Fifth Avenue Book Fair, Shakespeare in the Park/Delacourte Theatre and in public schools across the country. Past projects of Merry Minstrels include:
"A Lover and His Lass" - a gathering of Elizabethan lute songs, songs and scenes from Shakespeare, instrumental pieces for recorder and lute, and Renaissance dances
"The Sweets of Love" - a program of courtly love songs with an entertaining narrative about the Elizabethan lute song period
"Beautiful Dreamer" - a story of Stephen Foster and his music
"All the Pleasures Prove" - a program of Renaissance lute songs
