MESSENGER Since the inception of Messenger in 2005, the band has divided its time between Norway and East Anglia, occasionally moving out of these areas to record, in places as diverse as Los Angeles, London and Castle Howard.
Messenger is Ole Kvaernsveen, lead vocalist, songwriter and bass guitarist, whose on-stage style has been compared variously to Jagger, early Rod Stewart and Bono, and harks back to an era when enjoying one's performance on stage was not a sin. Ole writes and performs absolutely catchy songs, whilst creating a highly charged presence, interacting with the other members of band but never missing a note. He has played professionally for the last sixteen years (since the age of 14), doing at least 150 live gigs each year of his professional career.
Ole is supported on-stage by Kjetil Sandsengen (Mr E) who brings the light touch of the guitar hero with a steely stage presence, firing off Ole's exuberance and creating a high-energy performance. Kjetil has also been playing professionally for nine years throughout Europe, acting as sidesman, jobbing musician and steady backbone of numerous nascent rock bands. He now finds himself with Messenger and is happy to be there.
On keyboards is Ronnie Dahl, a distant relative of the famous Roald (not to mention Sophie, which for some reason Ronnie doesn't). On his first UK show with Messenger the promoter christened him 'the Pork Butcher' because of his aggressive stance and strange manner of chopping the keyboard rather than the more traditional playing methods. Ronnie joins the rest of the band creating a heritage of great musicianship.
Finally, Tobby Johansen has also spent a lifetime perfecting his craft. His driving style moves the band constantly forward and interacts with Ole's bass to give a solid structure from which the others can weave their magic.
The live style of the band is indicative of the way Messenger approach their music. They should not be missed live – their performance harks back to an era of entertainment and fun which is so rare in the current music vista.
