Messenger is a piano-driven christian rock band. If you thought piano was only for concert halls....think again! (piano interlude)
Messenger was spawned out of the desire to share the gift of salvation through music. During the summer of 2006, Colton Dixon and Paul Kovacic wrote their first song together entitled "Energized". Needless to say, the song was very cheesy and basic, but it sparked a desire in Colton and Paul to continue down this avenue of writing music as a means of sharing their love of God with others. Several days after that, Paul presented Colton with four songs-- "Last Day", "Save Me Now", "Where Were You?", and a fourth song which has been lost in the annals of time. Out of all these songs, "Save Me Now" became our first semi-decent song that we had written.
Around a year later, we had around 15 songs (over half of which were pretty corny) in our "songbank". We had compiled a couple more semi-decent songs by this time as well. It was during this time that Jason Bolles joined Messenger as our bass guitar player and Paul decided to play drums for the band instead of guitar.
However, as time progressed, it became apparent that there was still an essential piece missing to Messenger music-wise: a guitar player. An ad was posted in late February, and on March 2, 2009, Will Rudder strummed his first chords with Messenger. Then, after only two practices, he performed his first concert with Messenger only four days later at The Ark in Mt. Juliet, TN.
Messenger hasn't always been called "Messenger". "All4Him" and "Pureflow" were other previous names for the band. However, "Messenger" ended up being chosen because that name sums up exactly what we want to be as a band--messengers for God. However we know that 'It's not about the messenger.. it's about the Message'. That message of hope is one we strive to share with others through our music.
The Messenger symbol, the star with the wings around it, has many spiritual implications. First of all, the English word “angel” comes from a Greek word which means “messenger”. Throughout the Bible, God used angels to bring His people a certain message. The wings represent just that--the message of salvation to people who hear it. The star in the middle represents the star that guided the wisemen to baby Jesus--to the Truth. We want our band to always maintain its focus and vision on why we started it in the first place--that is to glorify God through our music. This takes us to the present condition of the band known as Messenger...
