Born Jerome Kirk-Patrick Sterling-Doyley in Jamaica, W.I. Sterling found his love for music at the early age of 3. He could be seen carrying Sesame Street and Barney cassettes in his hand while attending church on weekends, going to the beach and shopping even if he had nothing to play them in, he would still carry them around with him. Some thought that he had adopted his passion for music from his dad. His father has been a musician for years, he plays the piano for his church and teaches music to children. By the time he was 10, Sterling's mom sent him to piano classes to learn something new but it only took about 2 years before he got tired of it and gave up on piano lessons. In prep school Sterling was a part of the choir and played a huge role in the music areas, he did many performances with his music class, and went to events to represent his school. All around school, wherever he went you could hear him talking about something relating to music, if it’s not a new song by his favorite artist or a new album it would be about music class.
His first year in high school, Sterling formed a group with 5 other members in his class, they called themselves B.O.Y.Z. That’s where he began writing songs both for himself and for the group, the group voted him the lead songwriter and lead singer. Although the group never went places to perform or performed at school events, they did however form a bond with each other and did a few practices for fun after school on some evenings. It wasn’t until a year later in 8th grade when the group broke up because some got transferred to different classes and some of the members were no longer interested in the group. Since then, Sterling has been working solo, writing more songs and even attempting to produce his own music. However he took his love for music to another level in 2004 when he got baptized at a new church and joined the adult church choir, ironically being the youngest on the choir at age 16 he was their only base singer.
In 2007 to January 2008, Sterling recorded a raw demo on his laptop. Fortunately it got into the hands of a radio show producer, he received numerous calls and was asked to do an interview on a popular radio station in Jamaica. In February 2008 he was interviewed on one of the radio station’s highest rated show specifically for upcoming and new artists, at that same moment they played two songs from the demo, one titled “Are You Feeling Me” and the other “Contemporary Girl”. During that time he chose the stage name “Kirk Patrick” (middle name) and began working on new music and making more demos. It wasn’t until August of 2009 that he and his friend/promoter/producer Danny T came up with a new stage name “Sterling Patrick” because there was a ring to it and it defined his style. Since recently he met producers and promoters from Florida, Texas, New York and Germany. He also collaborated with New York rapper, Jo Shine who is well known in Germany and has worked with uncountable producers and artists from various cities and countries.
Sterling released his first EP titled “Powerhouse” in August 2009 with productions by German producers Danny T, DJ Casanova among US producers Rockit Productions and Slantize of Shadowville Productions. In July he released the first promo single produced by Danny T, “So Hot” ft. Jo Shine for the EP which was a Top 20 Club hit overseas. Already Sterling has created a buzz on the net in Germany and Russia and has been asked on more than one occasion by promoters and DJ’s to record shout outs, whether for a website or mixtape. On Friday, October 30th, he released his first mixtape titled "The Future" for free download on the internet presented by Danny T and Double L with songs produced by Danny T, O.G. Productions, Rockit Productions and various producers from Shadowville Productions. Unexpectedly, the mixtape got over 3,000 downloads in total in a day and a half from the various sites it was available for download. It is a 5 Star rated mixtape on Datpiff.com, with great reviews from fans, friends, producers, etc. The second single "What A Night" produced by Danny T made a huge debut in Germany, already a club smash and is even being considered to be added to a television series in Germany as a background track or be featured on the soundtrack.
Sterling is often commended on his music, style and vocals and is told occasionally that he brings freshness and originality to the music world. He adopted his writing skills based off current affairs, personal experiences and sometimes even just for fun. He is motivated and encouraged by his mother and close friends and is influenced by the best in the industry, such as; the late great Michael Jackson, Enrique Iglesias, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Bob Marley, Beyonce, Prince, Freddy McGregor among others. He’s currently looking forward to being signed by an international major record label.
