Metalmags is the music project of Erica Magrey (me). She's also a character in some of my videos. Most recently, she appeared in a [video] musical called Troubadour.
Abridged history of Metalmags: I first started recording music as Metalmags on my 4-track back in 1999 and began contributing songs to Songfight.com (originally run by Collin Mel and still a cool site). After my move to NYC in '01 I started recording on my computer, allowing my songs to become a bit more layered. When I designed the cover of my first CD I put a wig and some funny assorted pieces of clothing and thus the physical image of Metalmags was born. Shortly thereafter I began to use her as a character in my video work. She has since become a kind of alter-ego, shifting over time along with the subject of my investigation. Currently working on: space and the cosmos.
