Metal Mansions Promotions was set up by me, Russ Saxton (Sacko to you) in 1997 after 12 years experience organising tours for my own metal bands Headstrong, Taras Bulba and Hostile among others.
The 1980s was a brilliant time for live music especially if you were a metal head, with the Notts/Derby area having possibly the best grass roots scene in the UK sprouting many of the best outfits of the NWOBHM, and hosting many of the finest touring bands of the era with even local bands playing to packed houses. By the 1990s this scene had faded away and I felt then and still do that this was the dark ages for live music with hardly any bands, venues closing and seemingly little interest in going to see a band in the once mighty heartland of heavy music.
I set up Metal Mansions initially with the selfish motive of getting some live music back to my home area so I could relive the glory days and to my surprise the audiences were still there, just needing something worthwhile to go and see!
Im still unshakable in my belief that music must be kept live and my aim is to bring the best tribute and cover bands, signed and unsigned original music to the East Midlands. (I am still active as a professional musician myself, touring the UK and Europe with 'Sack Sabbath' and teaching guitar to the next generation of musicians).
There is a vast audience for tribute bands who serve a dual purpose of allowing those who never saw the greats of rock in their prime faithfully recreated by talented musicians and to allow older rockers to wallow in unbridled nostalgia but I am also dedicated to original music and feel the best way to promote it is to ensure tributes and cover bands are always supported by original outfits, giving them the chance to play to big crowds.
I have organised several major battle of the bands contests offering cash prizes of over £1000 and days of studio time to the winners.
Despite the name I do not solely promote metal and work with any and every genre from the deathest of death metal to Robbie Williams and Madonna tributes.
I also offer promotional services to bands such as backdrops (custom made to your specifications, size, design and material) badges, flyer distribution etc etc.
