Books, Music, Movies, Travel, Good Practical Jokes (on others), avoiding hateful people, taking over the world, good writing and poetry. Here is one of my faves:
On the day when the weight deadens
on your shoulders and you stumble,
may the clay dance to balance you.
And when your eyes freeze behind
the grey window and the ghost of loss
gets to you, may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green and azure blue
come to awaken in you a meadow of delight.
When the canvas frays in the curach of thought
and a stain of ocean blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.
May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak to mind your life.
A prayer taken from ANAM CARA by John O'Donohue
Music
In no particular order, although Alexi Murdoch is perfect to start off with: Alexi Murdoch, Counting Crows, North Mississippi Allstars, The Tablerockers (do yourself a favor and get a cd from cdbaby.com) Black Crowes, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Stevie Ray Vaughan, O.A.R, Jason Mraz, Aerosmith, Anthony Gomes, Susan Tudeschi, Jet, John Mayer, Ellis Island, Train, Merle Haggard, Damien Rice, Jack Johnson... this list is neverending and will continue to grow. I listen to at least a few songs from damn near all genres of music.
Movies
The Holiday, In Her Shoes, The Family Stone, Harry Potter (all of them!), Lord of the Rings, The Preacher's Wife, Ever After, Elf, Anchorman, Wedding Crashers is probably the all-time funniest movie I've ever seen. I don't get into really serious movies. I like a good laugh or a good cry, but I just watch movies to escape for a couple of hours. I don't care what the critics think of them or whether they are going to win awards.
Television
Grey's Anatomy, Boston Legal, Rock Star, House
Books
The Golden Compass, Anything Terry Pratchett, Harry Potter (all of them!), The Spiral Dance, Eragon, The Eldest, The Fifth Sacred Thing... I read biographies, autobiographies and other non-fiction more than anything, but usually if I have a book in my hand, I'm happy. I also love some of the classics: To Kill a Mockingbird, Watership Down, Black Like Me, A Farewell to Arms. I also like how-to/do-it-yourself books.
Heroes
God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.
Terry Pratchett, "Good Omens"
About me: Pretty laid back. Love to spend time with my friends, listen to music, etc. I have the most amazing son in the wide world.
Soon I plan to take over the world and put a quick end to all the bullshit out there, but other than that, I'm just hangin'...
Who I'd like to meet: I'll talk to anyone who is not closed-minded. I like people who challenge me.
If I could meet anyone in history, tho...
Mark Twain,
Abraham Lincoln,
Mother Teresa &
Jesus.
I was down at the Buffalo River two weeks ago for a float trip. The rain gods were smiling upon us because the days preceding our trip were very wet and the river was very high. It was amazing as usual. We never dumped the canoe but we did simply just sink to the bottom once due to all the water sloshing in over the sides in the rapids. We eventually took on too much and the next thing I know my cousin and I are floating up and out of the boat which has parked itself on the river bottom. What a laugh. Spring is in full gear here in Colorado. Hope you have a great one.
Not alot, Sean has the flu, yuck!! I miss you too!! Everybody is leaving here now it seems:( Since you are still working in Branson, maybe we can all go to lunch sometime! I will call you!
