Metapneuma started as a few high school friends from Omaha getting together in a basement and jamming. The idea to start calling ourselves a "band" started in December of 2002, when Bill Bateman started jamming with us. At that time the lineup included Bill Bateman, Tommy Distefano, Matt Schalles, and Robin Witte. We recorded about 10 CDs worth of jamming which was compiled into a CD that became The Conception Sessions.
In August of 2003 we moved the jamming from Tommy's basement to Bill's house to do some higher quality recording. The result of that jamming is our first album, Out of the Air, which you can order on our web page.
Throughout most of 2004 we jammed with other people who you can hear on many of the mp3s on our web page.
In September of 2004, Tommy, Bill, Matt, Matt's brother Jim, and keyboardist Erik Jensen went into Bill's studio and recorded 5 CDs worth of jamming, some of which you can also hear on our web page.
Tommy, Matt, and Chase did a bunch of jamming and started creating some songs in 2006 as a power trio, but Matt had to relocate. We aren't really doing anything right now, but Tommy will probably keep doing solo stuff.

Hey , I wanted to stop by and let you know what we 're up to. We just finished a very successful tour of Germany, Italy and Switzerland. We are now headed out for a few weeks touring the southeastern United States. Hopefully we'll make it to a venue near you someday soon.
Best wishes
Jim Weider

Drums are just a standard kit with the snares off that Rich played with his hands. (They hurt for days.) All we did was put a little bit of hall reverb on them. Viola!
You guys are the quintessential jam band; No definitive set of members, some of the songs are named with the date and who played them. It's all about the jam. It's a beautiful thing.
Thanks for adding my band to your friend list! I'm loving your stuff, it's very experimental but you never lose track of melody, which is very important! Keep up the great work! :)
hey dude, i jammed with you tonight, well i guess really it was yesterday but its all the same. I think that you should jam with ted and i more often because the band we are in sucks a lot.........
