Sounds Like
The Ruts and The Bonzos assembling a rather troublesome deckchair accompanied by The Banana Splits, a pair of kazoos and a steam driven ukelele.
Chipperfield's Circus, Led Zeppelin, Girls Aloud, Take That and Sooty – these are some of the people Keith has never worked with. Undisturbed, this handsomely-wrapped guitarist, poet and author of peculiar songs has seen active service with the MUTANTS, GEISHA GIRLS, AFTER A FASHION, THE EXPLODING HAMSTERS, SPIDER MONKEYS and most recently THE LOVETONES. Keith is also a co-conspirator and occasional member of cult 60's Liverpool band THE SCAFFOLD with JOHN GORMAN and MIKE McCARTNEY.
Sharp-tongued poet, musician, playwright, presenter, philosopher and performer, Keith is colloquial, cantankerous and erudite. Lyrically smart, his words are drawn from life's warp and weft and straddle an art-rock backdrop nestling somewhere between Zappa’s improvisation and the The Bonzo Dog Band’s post-musical hall vibe. He’s funny and sad. Angry and incisive. He’s Hancock without the hangdog; Lenny Bruce with a loaded Telecaster. His live work constantly shifts between stand up and stand out ferocity.
As a headline act (both solo and with his band THE METHYLATED SPIRITUALISTS), he has toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe, and during a hailstorm of former lives has opened for numerous acts including the Jam, the Buzzcocks, Ultravox, the Police, Steve Marriott, Big Country, Nik Turner, Paul Weller, Elvis Costello, The Damned, Blondie, The Stranglers, Joe Strummer and Billy Bragg.
No stranger to the dressing-up box, the lad has written and performed a veritable smorgasbord of eclectic delicacies for theatre, television, film and radio and has worked for every major broadcaster in the UK and Ireland. He has put words into the mouths of numerous actors including Steven Berkoff, James Nesbitt, Colin Salmon, Paul Kaye, Danny Dyer, Phil Daniels, Kevin Whately, Paul Barber and Leo Gregory. He has racked up over three hundred television credits - his most unusual probably being his gig as co-presenter and comedy stunt man on Channel FIVE'S hidden camera crime-busting series 'McINTYRE'S BIG STING' (2006/7) with undercover reporter Donal McIntyre.
In parallel to the glitz and glamour of tv and showbiz, he managed to squeeze out the debut solo album 'SLIP OF THE TONGUE' with producers Roddie Gilliard and Steve Powell (2008 FinMusic) featuring musicians who’ve worked with Jools Holland, The Magic Band, Arthur Brown, Ike Willis, Napoleon Murphy Brock and Steve Winwood. Guitar driven parables and cheeky sarcasm snogs acoustic subliminal new-man sensitivity before your very ears. Including an a la carte menu of moans, groans and rhythm methods more usually associated with the Karma Sutra, 'Slip Of The Tongue' is a seductively assembled pot pourri of well-versed aural stimulation.
Also fragrant and provocatively turned out, the well stacked follow up album 'RAPSCALLION BOP' (2009 FinMusic) is now out on the streets looking for business. This esoteric long player contains full frontal brass and a sizeable dose of heavy orchestration. Ukelele driven, piano clad, saxophone moist and riddled with verbal clever-dickery, it's cool on the lobes and inoffensive to the nostril.
Both records are a must-have for those who are, those who probably will be, and those who have been for most of their lives.
In addition, as well and also, the eagerly-anticipated travelogue soapy-doc-opera almost poetry book 'IRRITABLE VOWEL SYNDROME' (SEE BLOG) will be blowing its cover and tingling its spine during the first flushes of 2010. Tuck in your shirts and prepare the rubber gloves - 'tis a warm handful indeed.
