Were the Metro City section of the newspaper but on wax, explains" Jy" member Metro City. Emerging from the city of Boston, this harmoniously gritty four-piece group is not your standard R&B group. Metro City has a fresh, soulful approach in presenting their message. A lot of things that people rap about, we sing about, says "Jy". We sing about realities and circumstances of everyday life that we know and have lived through.
They grew up in the communities of Dorchester and Roxbury in Boston, Massachusetts. Working on their individual musical style in their respective communities, they performed wherever they could from local clubs to church to the YMCA. The experiences of our surroundings made us who we are said "Cyrus", who spent his early youth growing up in Liberia Africa. There aren't too many things to get into in the hood, most success stories in the hood are about guys who played ball to make it out, well music is our outlet. While the group knew of each other individually, it wasnt until one night at the acclaimed Apollo Theater Amateur Night in New York where 2key, Jy and Rey caught Cyrus singing. Cyrus won the amateur contest winning $100 in the process and the opportunity to perform again. Returning to Boston, the three members asked Cyrus to join their group and help create the unique R&B music blend of hip-hop and soul that is known as Metro City.
Singer/Songwriters as well as performers, their song-writing influences are a mix of Artist ranging from New Edition, Biggie Smalls, Michael Jackson, Jodeci, R. Kelly, Boys II Men and G-Unit among others. It was their incredible voices partnered with their glaring potential, that brought them to the attention of 55 Entertainment. 55 Entertainment, the multifaceted music and Entertainment Company based in Los Angeles, is figure-headed by NFL star and 3 time Super Bowl Champ Willie McGinest of the New England Patriots. Working in 55's Los Angeles studios and Boston Studios for somtime now , the groups debut album has yet to be released.
When it comes to Metro Citys debut, 55 wasted no time in making sure the potential of the quartet wasnt squandered. Writing their own songs, the list of producers the group worked with reads like a whos who of the urban charts. We made an album that gives people of all ages something to hold onto, says 2Key. Approaching the close of recording their debut album, Metro City has several impact songs to choose from. The Movement /Metro City produced Ghetto Love, an all out mating call to find that special girl that fits the Metro City vibe. It Features DR. DRE protoge and platinum rap star "THE GAME" and new york rap veteran SAUCE MONEY. Hit Singer/Songwriter Ne-Yo penned another potential smash in "Superstar" a song that will surely stimulate the female audience. Soul music hitmaker Mike City produced and wrote "Wait for Me". Chink Santana/METRO Produced "Grindin" a reality song. St. Nick/METRO CITY produced Treat Her Like A Lady an empowering ballad that reflects on the ongoing problem with domestic abuse.,RL(next) sent in 3 power houses "G", "PLAYA SH**", AND "DONT STOP". The legendary sam salter threw in babymaker "LETS MAKE A TRADE". METRO CITY kicked in the rest you know they killed it, we'll have to wait and see.
With their debut release close at hand, Metro City is bringing something new from the neighborhood. McGinest comments, Metro City brings a unique evolution of classic soul and Hip Hop to the game. These guys are a potent combination of singers, performers, and creators who have the potential to kick down the doors to superstardom.
Weve worked long and hard, and our mission is to bring our world to the mainstream, says Rey. Our music reflects what we see, hear and feel everyday - hustle, pain, love and struggle. The realities of our everyday lives in the Metro City.
