METROPOLE is a feature documentary. The film is a visual exploration of the daily activities of life in the city over one 24 hour period, as experienced by persons from across the social spectrum. METROPOLE uses no dialogue, only images, sounds and music to express the everyday moments of a unique, yet familiar reality. Shot and produced in Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC, the film is scheduled for release in September 2007.
Original score by Michael Hebert. Featuring tracks from Füxa, Esmerine (Ex-Godspeed You! Black Emperor), múm, AMM, mus-ok, Specs One, Joy Wants Eternity, Blue Scholars and others.
METROPOLE looks at social class in America by exposing the interconnectedness resulting from urban living. There are neither interviews, nor dialogue: only images, sounds and music to express the everyday moments of a unique, yet familiar reality. Each of the characters represents the curious diversity of the social groups found in the city. What at first appear like unrelated, individual actions are connected by the complex economic and social relationships inherent to a society that compartmentalizes human activity.
By combining beautiful cinematography, with an original, poetic musical score composed by Michael Hebert the complexity of our interdependence with one another in a post-modern and post-industrial economic climate is revealed. The purpose of the documentary is to highlight the contrasting social positions of consumer versus producer, positions that we all occupy, and to defamiliarize the everyday activities of work and rest.

The inaugural Atlanta Film Festival Screenplay Competition has opened it's call for entries!
We are accepting shorts AND features.
Final deadline is August 31.
Winners will be invited to participate in a weekend retreat with industry professionals this November. Professional writers, producers and actors from the industry will critique and workshop the scripts, helping the writer whip their projects into production shape. The idea is to getting everybody's feet wet with the development process. Ideally, this process will create mentoring relationships with LA and NYC professionals that will lead to long term contacts and ultimately will lead the writer on the road to success.
Also, winners will be eligible for the Southeast Media Award...

"The only dream worth having is to dream that you will live while you are alive, and die only when you are dead. To love, to be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and vulgar disparity of the life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget." - Arundhati Roy (weroy.org)
