Heroes

Here are some quotes that I admire:

AUTHOR QUOTES
Edward Abbey "The idea of wilderness needs no defense, it only needs defenders."
Louisa May Alcott "Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead."
William Blake "To see a world in a grain of sand and a heaven in a wild flower, Hold infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour"
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, German Theologian "The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children."
Buddha - Siddhartha Gautama The Buddha teaches this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.
Edmund Burke No man made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.
Edmond Burke "All that is needed for the forces of evil to triumph is for enough good men to do nothing."
Frances Hodgson Burnett At first people refuse to believe that a strange new thing can be done. Then they begin to hope it can be done. Then they see it can be done. Then it is done and all the world wonders why it was not done centuries ago.
George Carlin "Every sixty seconds,  thirty acres of rain forest are destroyed in order to raise beef for fast food restaurants that sell it to people, giving them strokes and heart attacks, which raise medical costs and insurance rates, providing insurance companies with more money to invest in large corporations that branch out further into the Third World so they can destroy  more rain forests."
Tao Te Ching "Whatever is flexible and flowing will tend to grow, whatever is rigid and blocked will wither and die."
Deepak Chopra "Every cell in your body is seeking fulfillment through joy, beauty, love and appreciation."
Carol Christensen, Making It Happen  "When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened."
Eldridge Cleaver "If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem."
The Dalai Lama It is our collective and individual responsibility to protect and nurture the global family, to support its weaker members and to preserve and tend to the environment in which we all live.
The Dalai Lama Be a good human being, a warm-hearted, affectionate person. That is my fundamental belief.
The Dalai Lama Because we all share this small planet Earth, we have to live in harmony and peace with each other and with nature. That is not just a dream, but a necessity.
The Dalai Lama My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.
The Dalai Lama Through training there is knowledge. You can produce compassion, love, forgiveness. you can change yourself.
The Dalai Lama I always believed in love, compassion, and a sense of universal respect. Every human being has that potential.
Baba Dioum "In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught."
Marjory Stoneman Douglas "There must be progress, certainly. But we must ask ourselves what kind of progress we want, and what price we want to pay for it. If, in the name of progress, we want to destroy everything beautiful in our world, and contaminate the air we breathe, and the water we drink, then we are in trouble."
Albert Einstein "We cannot solve the problems that we have created with the same thinking that created them."
Albert Einstein Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.
Albert Einstein "Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty."
Albert Einstein "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
Ralph Waldo Emerson "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."
Ralph Waldo Emerson "To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!"
Harvey Fierstien Accept no one's definition of your life, but define yourself.
Benjamin Franklin They [who] can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Robert Frost "Something we were withholding made us weak until we found it was ourselves."
Mahatma Gandhi "You must be the change you want to see in the world."
Mahatma Gandhi "The things that will destroy us are: Politics without principle; Pleasure without conscience; Wealth without work; Knowledge without character; Business without morality; Science without humanity, And worship without sacrifice."
Mahatma Gandhi

What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another.
Mahatma Gandhi

"It is the action and not the fruit of the action that matters. You must do what is right. Maybe it is not in your power, not in your time that fruits will be borne. However this does not mean that you must cease doing what is right. You may never know the result of your action but if you do nothing, there will not be any result at all".
Goethe He is the happiest, be he king or peasant who finds peace in his house.
Dr. Jane Goodall "Only if we understand can we care. Only if we care will we help. Only if we help shall they be saved."

Charles A. Lindbergh "In wilderness I sense the miracle of life."
Luther Standing Bear (Oglala Sioux Chief) "Only to the white man was nature a wilderness and only to him was the land infested with wild animals and savage people. To us it was tame. Earth was bountiful and we were surrounded with the blessings of the Great Mystery."

It's finally here!!! Jake Walden follows up his critically acclaimed album "Alive and Screaming" with an exquisite cover of Leona Lewis' smash "Bleeding Love." The duet with actress and singer/songwriter Bonnie Somerville, who was featured on the Grammy Award winning Garden State Soundtrack, intimately captures the song's essence. The track is packaged with 3 b-sides (2 live tracks and one demo) that showcase the core of Walden's signature vulnerability.

Once again, Jake Walden has shared something so very special. Take a moment and watch, listen. Hopefully his music will touch you in a very special way and you will seek out and embrace all that he has to give. Once you do, you will know, at that very moment that he is like no other...

Please share this with your friends... with love

In Jake’s words ~ “A Case of You”

"There are few songs that remain constants for me. This song is for my Mom who's birthday is this week. A Case of You along with so many Joni songs have been the bridge between us and helped in growing our friendship throughout my adult life. Blue, the album this is off of was a seminal piece of work in my Mom's life, and luckily it became the same for me. There really are no words to say how much this song means to me, as a writer, a singer and a hopeless romantic. I find it's meanings to be endless and I hope in this little moment, in that tiny room with that old microphone I was able to capture just that.

Peace, Jake"

Hey metta8, I am sending you a Liquid Cocaine.

Send me a drink back!

Now that tributes have been done
And the many respects have been paid
Should we even try to analyze the mystery
surrounding the life of The King Of Pop?
Hmmm....
I mean...
What if this Toon story was true?
I guess now we will never know!
But that's ok...
We're alive, we're still in the game!
I say let's toast to all that
with some Liquid Cocaine!
He!He!He!

It was the summer of my coming of age...
The air was hot and the skies were a perfect blue,
There was no internet, no I-pod, no cell-phone,
There was no blu-ray, no Netflix, No Viagra.
I had no wife, no kids, no car, no job.
A mere nerdy teenager boy, I was!
~*~
And so there I was...
shoplifting my own copy of "Thriller"
at one of the local K-mart stores!

I heard the store alarm going off
as I took off running back home
with that big old vinyl in my hands!
I felt triumphant, I was excited,
I was feeling as if I had it all!
~*~
A few weeks later...
Atari came out!
Shit!

Anyways...
Thank you for the thrill, Michael!
R.I.P.
~*~
Everybody  else, remember...
There is smart and there is K-mart smart!
