PAVE is a peer led educational program offered free to area schools and organizations. High school volunteers from all over the county go into middle school classrooms to talk to the students about violence prevention in many forms. Topics discussed in the PAVE program include physical assault, neglect, sexual harassment, bullying, teen dating violence, and more. PAVE helps youth in Licking County avoid becoming victims or helps them understand that it is never their fault if they have been victimized.
Mental Health America (MHA) of Licking County offers PAVE, an assault/rape prevention program to middle school students, their parents and teachers in Licking County. High School volunteers assist by acting out an assault situation followed with group discussion on how to prevent the situation from occurring or what to do if it has happened to them or someone they know. The High school volunteers specifically teach on Physical Assault and Sexual Assault. While the other days which include, Diversity, Conflict Resolution and Sexual Harassment, are taught by an MHA staff member.
PAVE focuses on the middle schools and is taught through peer education and sociodramas by high school students from around the county. It is typically a 5 day workshop. PAVE is age appropriate. Our peer-led education program has been working in Licking County for over 14 years. STAMP is an anti bullying program focused on 6th graders. The program is given once a week for 4 weeks; this helps the continuity of the subject matter.
RespectEd is taught by college students. It is a three day program that focuses on the upper grades. The topics include tolerance, diversity, conflict resolution, anger management, sexual harassment and sexual assault. We also have a program for 11th and 12th grades called Get Ready!, that focuses more on students being campus and workplace ready when it comes to preventing violence. Topics important to such a transition are sexual harassment, sexual assault, mental health, mental illness and suicide prevention.
TEACH is an in-service program for teachers and staff. It is designed to help teachers be more aware of troubled students and their responsibilities as mandated reporters.
