Mia Johnson is originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan but has been writing music and performing in Philly long enough to have laid down some sturdy roots there. In just over a decade living in this little big town she has created a name for herself as a one of the city's most durable singer-songwriters and performers with continuos touring and musical exploration being her MO.
Over the years she has held many a side job from retail to restaurant, janitor to cab driver in order to "support her music habit" but now relies solely on musical endeavors for her living. She keeps her performance schedule full between solo/duo gigs in the area's cafes and clubs, singing back-up in the original urban-folk band Steph Hayes and The Good Problems, and touring as June Carter in the fabulous DAVID STONE:The Johnny Cash Experience. To this she says "In order to keep your head above water in this business, a girl's gotta have some versatility!"
DRIVER:
Mia's current CD DRIVER, a ten-song disc produced by Walt Bass (G Love, Laguardia) at Metropolitan Studios in Bryn Mawr, PA, masterfully runs the stylistic gamut. Her nights driving a cab in New Jersey and experiences accumulated over many years of "shoe-string" touring provided her with experiences critical to the realization of the record’s title with the re-curring themes of travel, motion, change and the road being a common thread binding the songs together. The sound is melody-led, rhythm-driven, tasty acoustic rock fleshed out by clever lyrics, solid vocals and nifty instrumentation which combines a full rock rhythm section with cello, acoustic, and electric guitars. Though the flavorful and rich production and featured performances by some of Philly's favorites such as Garrett Dutton a.k.a. G Love, The BurnDown Allstar's Davey Quicks, and Alo Brasil provides beautiful scenery for your voyage through DRIVER, Mia’s strong, honest voice and clever, weathered observations assure you’ll never lose your way.

Mia!!!!! Thanks for sharing your music, and thanks for the friendship. Fantastic songs, your vocals fill them!!! Each was so well done, but if I had to pick a favorite (and I will) it would have to be "SAILOR". First of all, the arrangement was superb, secong the emotions your vocals conveyed was absolutely fanatastic . . . . . a wonderul mood to the entire song, felt so much like a conversation I was secretly listening to. Thanks again. I hope for all the best for you. Be well
