MySpace a place for friends

The Miami University Alumni Association was created when John Dolibois became Miami’s first alumni secretary in June 1947. The Alumni Office had been, in the words of Walter Havighurst, “a desk drawer in the office of A. K. Morris, assistant to the university president.” Dolibois’ first office was somewhat of an improvement: a converted men’s lounge in Ogden Hall. In 1956, the Alumni Office moved to larger quarters in Roudebush Hall and, in 1962, relocated again to the second floor of the new student services building, Warfield Hall. By the end of 1964, it was clear to Dolibois that Warfield was not a good location for the Alumni Office. Many returning alums had trouble locating, and identifying with, a building which had not existed when they were students and which was primarily devoted to non-alumni business. Warfield also posed major space problems: alumni records had to be relegated to the basement, while office supplies were stored in staircase wells. The dedication of the Murstein Alumni Center on June 8, 1967, marked the successful end to a campaign started nearly four years earlier.
