4 Kings Entertainments World Famous Mic Club has gained a
loyal following of MCs and Producers ready for battle and
standing-room-only crowds there to witness the showdown
for over 6 years. The freestyle open mic & producer
battles are quickly becoming an underground phenomenon.
Formerly held every Tuesday night at Apache Cafe, 64 Third Street,
Atlanta, and now Each and Every 3rd Saturday of the Month in larger, Mid-
Size venues around the City of Atlanta, due to it's Large Following, the night
features live instrumentation by house band the A.S.O., hip-hop rotations by
DJ Edward Scizzahandz & Razah, monthly producer battles and weekly
performances by local and national artists.
Gaining attention from 8 Mile, the blockbuster movie
starring rap artist Eminem, MC battles are springing up
all over the country. The hip-hop scene in Atlanta is no
different. 8 Mile is doing for hip-hop what Love Jones
did for spoken word. MC battles used to come along once
every 2-3 months, but now there is a battle almost every
night of the week, says Mic Club founder and host DRES
tha Beatnik. Mic Club sets itself apart from the crowd
because we have the excitement of live instrumentation,
no celebrity judges, no politics, no B.S., and the utmost
respect for the MCs and Producers, the audience and the
culture. Mic Club gives it to you straight no chaser. Mic
Club was also Featured in QD3 Entertainments Ground
Breaking Hip Hop Documentary Series BEEF. Which has,
since its release, sold more than 5 Million copies and
has been syndicated on networks such as, BET, VH-1 & MTV.
The Atlanta underground is brimming with raw talent, and
the World Famous Mic Club is providing a school for MCs
and Producers. The battle here is for respect, not a cash
prize. MCs must come each night with their best
freestyle, as the battle is not judged by a panel, but by
the harshest critics the audience. DRES serves as Darwin
in this battle of the fittest by using a decibel meter to
judge the audience reaction the result is to either win
and move to the next round, or lose and try again next
week. Mic Club is cultivating good MCs and Producers. We
have seen MCs come week after week, as well as, Producers
come here month after month sharpen their skills, and
become talented artists, says DJ Edward Scissorhands, one of Mic
Club's resident deejays.
And the audience is enjoying every minute. Forget
Thursday night Tuesday has become the night for Must See
MC. What used to be a show for the most devoted hip-hop
heads, Mic Clubs appeal is spreading to the masses. Mic
Club is almost like church I cant miss a week, one Mic
Club regular states. I have to be there to hear what
theyll say next.
The latest innovation of the World Famous Mic Club is The MIGHTY MIGHTY
BEAT DOWN Producers Battle. The MIGHTY MIGHTY BEAT DOWN is an
extension of the long running MIC CLUB and is presented every 1st
Tuesday of the Month at Apache Cafe in Atlanta, GA. The
show pits up & coming producers against one another, in
an effort to, acquire the shows most precious commodity,
the ATTENTION, RESPECT & EARS of the audience.
Throughout the History of Hip-Hop Culture, when the music
began to migrate from the parks to the recording studios,
the Producer was there. Most notable in Hip-Hops younger
years were production titans such as, Marley Marl,
Afrikka Bammbaataa, TC Islam, Rick Rubin, Grandmaster
Flash & the Bomb Squad. As Hip-Hop got older names such
as, Pete Rock, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Prince Paul, DJ
Premier, Dr. Dre, Diamond D. & Herbie LuvBug Azor, began
to emerge and take the sound to another level. As the
culture began to transform and shape itself names such
as, Jay Dee, MadLib, Just Blaze, Scott Storch, The
Neptunes & Kanye West have moved to the forefront.
Now as we face the next movement in music, the Industry,
as well as, its consumers are desperately searching to
find the next BIG sound. The World Famous Mic Club is
providing an entertaining and educational platform for
the entire spectrum of the Music Business. From Label
Executive to Consumer, any and everyone can take
something away from the Mic Club and ingrain it into
their life. Reminiscent of the Lyricist Lounge in New
York and Project Blowed in L.A., Mic Club is beginning to
gain attention by hip-hop artists on a national level. As
part of its True Masters Series, Mic Club recently hosted
live performances by hip-hop legends KRS-One, Craig G.,
the Jungle Brothers and Black Sheep. and the BEHIND THE BOARDS Series
has showcased the talents of Producers such as DIAMOND D, 9th WONDER &
MANNIE FRESH
